A video of my girl :) I hope it worked So I am not sure if this will work as I have never attempted to link a video from FaceBook but let's see if this works :) https://www.facebook.com/tina.mansfi...user_video_tab If the video works the traits that can be seen are the fringe of long hair that frames her much shorter hair and the paler eyes that are almost a liver brown. What wouldn't be as clear is the backs of her ears which are lightly covered in a peach fuzz so fine that they appear bald. I have noted no hair growth since I brought her home almost 3 weeks ago. The "true" blue yorkies that I have seen as a comparison are owned by people who saw them as newborns prior to them turning a chocolate colour. They were from breeders who discovered the issue and kept the pups themselves (no more breeding of the parent dogs as well) The owners said that Sophie looked just like their little ones did at her age. Without scientific proof all I have is worry and speculation. I am simply so glad that I have a place to express these concerns with others who care about their pups the way that I do. I really hope that kit arrives soon :) |
We're with you and praying and hoping for the very best! "All things are possible if you believe". |

Here is a link to the best photos of an adult blue-born Yorkie that I have been able to find: https://www.facebook.com/shanonSpark...54940083479412 . Note the thin hair, light gray nose, and wrinkled skin. This is a dog that was up for adoption from a YTCA-affiliated North Texas rescue organization a year ago. |

I feel sick... I just googled ""blue born" yorkie puppies" and came across the following photos: Yokie Happiness I have a suspicion that these are real blue-born Yorkie puppies (they have gray hair, lighter colored noses, and strange eyes), and the breeder considers them to be a "designer" dog. I'm feeling a little sick... Edit: I'm not talking about the ones at the top of the page. You have to click on the small thumbnails further down the page to view them. I'm hoping that these are really chocolate Yorkies and that the photo color is off, but I don't know... |

I am reposting the video hopefully I have adjusted the settings in FB correctly :) https://www.facebook.com/tina.mansfi...4994079275843/ |
pstinard Thank you so much for continuing to provide me with information. Given the rarity of blue borns it's very hard to find. I am of course still hoping that the D-locus is negative. :) :) |
No video this is what I get when I click on it Sorry, this content isn't available right now The link you followed may have expired, or the page may only be visible to an audience you're not in. |

How’s it going? |
Saw the vet So I am still waiting for the genetic test kit to arrive. On Saturday it will be two weeks from the date they mailed it. Boy snail mail is slow :) I took Sophie to the vet on Monday and wow do I ever like the new vet I chose. She was the first vet who really seemed to understand the unique health needs of small pups like Yorkies. First time ever that I didn't have to argue about not wanting the lepto shot. In fact she said she doesn't recommend giving it to any dog under 10 pounds so in short she has my trust. We discussed my concerns about Sophie. She said that there is certainly a possibility that she is blue born and may develop colour dilution alopecia but that it's by no means a death sentence if confirmed. She said that the genes may never express themselves and that if they do the likely hood of serious health issues is slim. She in fact has three dogs in her clinic that have CDA and the major issue is related to skin. Sensitivity to sunlight is the biggest concern. She is very curious to see the results of the test. So the vet is fantastic, well educated regarding this health issue and I am confident that Sophie if confirmed will receive excellent care. I will let you all know when I finally get the test and the results |

Just caught up with these posts. Your baby's pictures are just adorable. I'm not educated on blue borns, but if she is, she's so very blessed to have you, and you blessed with her. I know, by having grown children and no grandchildren, how much you love her. It's such a heart filling love that lots of people don't understand. I pray you will have peace whatever the outcome will be. Stay strong and hopefully the test will be in your hands soon. Please post back. There are so many wonderful Yorkie lovers here and are understanding. |
Quick update. I finally got the testing kit in and will be doing the cheek swab on Sophie tomorrow morning. The test has to be done at least two hours after eating so first thing in the morning seems like a good time. I will be sending it back express registered mail. The timeline for completing the test is 3-5 days after it's received back. The results are available online so I am hoping to have the results by end of next week. Sophie has developed some tiny bumps on the back of her head that I will have looked at when she goes for her next vet visit on the 15th of this month. As I don't know if she is blue born I am going to try not to be too concerned about the skin bumps. I am aware that skin issues and infection in particular is a problem in blue borns but until I have the results I am pushing that concern away for now. Well wish me luck with the swabbing, I am thinking it will be more like her chewing the swab as I desperately attempt to rub it on the inside of her cheek lol. I will let everyone know as soon as the results are in. Fingers crossed :) |
Thanks for the update. Please let us know what the vets says about those bumps, fingers N paws crossed. |
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you...You should be very proud of the strength and love both you and Sophie have shown throughout this unsettling time. You guys have done great! |
