I am getting a Yorkie that is 17 weeks and weighs 1.6 pounds. The breeder says that she will be around 2 lbs. But the mother is 4.5 pounds and the father is 5 pounds. She was the smallest of the litter. What do you all think?

Hi Neighbor! I live in Georgia as well. Congratulations on your new addition. There are many Yorkie Growth Charts on line and they serve as an educated guesstimate at best. It is difficult at best to calculate the adult weight of a pup because so many factors come into play - of which genetics is the most important. Not just mom and dad, but including generations before and then the meshing of the two genetic lines. It gets really complicated and then some pups just don't "follow the rules' and either are really tiny or super sized.

So using the charts it's about following the growth pattern from birth. According to a couple of charts I looked out if your pup weighed approximately 2.75 ounces at birth and now, at 17 weeks weighs 26 ounces her adult weight should be in the neighborhood of 2.5 lbs.

Welcome to YT, congrats on your new baby.
sorry, can't help with the weight of your pup, as chattiesmom replied to many things concerning the genetics of the pups, grand, greatgrand and so on parents come into play. It's more of a wait and see game. No matter what her weight will be, you will be madly in love with her. :)

It depends a lot about genetics more then just the parents. Are you specifically looking for a tiny pup? Did the breeder purposely breed for small pups? Going by the fact that the female is smaller then the male and under 5 pounds I would be worried this might not be a reputable breeder that dosent know what they are doing and that could lead to bigger problems.

She is an AKC reputable breeder. It just so happened that this pup was much smaller than the others.

Just because the AKC says she is dosen’t make it true. AKC will register puppy mills and back yard breeders to. I would think a reputable breeder would know that the male should be smaller then the female and that the female should be over 5 pounds. It seems like this breeder is risking her females health for the sake of money.

Not trying to "trash" anyone, only to educate for future, and for any new member that may read this thread.
A reputable breeder would not mate a larger male with a smaller female.
Females should always be bigger then the breeding male.
Breeding a larger male with a smaller female can / may cause complications at delivery time, a larger male can / may produce large puppies making it hard for smaller female to have an easy delivery and a C-section may be needed. In some C-sections the momma may refuse to nurse her puppies. Just trying to educate you and others that may come upon this thread, no trashing, just educating.

I wasn't trashing anyone I was just simply putting that those were red flags for a non reputable breeder. If you don't like my advise you can always ignore it. I have gone through getting a puppy from a bad breeder and I know what happens when you do. You can choose to listen to those who have been there or find out for yourself. But it is also a good thing for other members to read these posts and learn from them. I just assumed you were not real knowledgeable in the breed or finding a breeder due to your other posts asking about a micro yorkie and stuff.

So your breeder is a member here? Interesting. Just make sure that you are up to the challenges and tiny yorkie brings.

:clapsmile Good job to the breeder, the momma is bigger as should be, you will have to learn the yorkie shuffle if your lil gal tops off at say 3 pounds
