Terriers have short attention span, reason why short training gets the best results, especially if they are food motivated. Spending 15 minutes on one training session a terrier has already lost interest and not focusing on what you're trying to teach them. I train 6-7 times throughout the day, just 5 to 7 minutes and reward when he gets it right, my kiddo wants that one lil kibble so he's focused on me. By the end of the night 40 / 45 minutes and he has learned something new. Every night at 8PM is treat time, I put him through every command and trick he has learned and then he gets his Wellness treat. Nothing in life is free (NILIF) is the method I use. A tip I learned from YT members.;)

Tomorrow, we will keep working on potty training, and spend a few minutes throughout the day working on “come.” She comes to me like it’s nothing, but my husband and son have these deep, loud voices. I think they intimidate her. They call her, and she gets anxious and hesitates. Then they get irritated, and it is apparent in their voices, which sends her into a tizzy. It’s a negative feedback loop. So I’m going to have to train them at the same time in how to train her...

Yes first train the men folk, and all training commands must be used by the same name by all that live in the house. The male folk cannot show frustration in their voices, dogs pick up on this and will scare them. Make sure the men folk give her a treat when she comes and "soft" praise. It takes a lot of consistency and patience in any kind of training. I am sure you have lil Cookie on a feeding and potty schedule, if not you should, it will make outdoor potty training easier.

Get them to try to call her an a excited high pitch voice.

Yes, absolutely--tell 'em to imitate you (for fun). Also, it may help if those guys can get lower to the ground when gently, upper-range calling for your sweet girl.

Thank you guys! I started training the boys today. I’m seriously thinking about rewarding them with M&M’s when they get it right...;-)

Jkpal, oh yes! “ The boys” are my husband and son:D. I’m having to train them to train Cookie. I was teasing that when they’d do the command in a high, cute voice, they can click and give Cookie her chicken, then I’ll click and give them a piece of candy for doing it right:p. She gets little pinches of plain chicken.

Also, per ya’lls advice, I’m going to see if the vet will go ahead and do her liver blood work Monday, then schedule her spay. Crossing my fingers for great results!

I would do a whole pre surgery blood work not just the liver.

lol, cute with the men folk clicker training. But the entire family has to pitch in when it comes to training, remember, when teaching a command the word you use that same word must be used by all members in the house so as not to confuse the dog. Tiny amounts of food rewards work out best, dog will focus wanting to get it right just to get that lil pinch of chicken.
