How to introduce a Yorkie to another dog
 

I'm trying to make this a positive experience for all. Quick background info.
- Daughter has a boyfriend that is probably a keeper. He has a 2 year old Husky. The dog is good natured but certainly still a puppy. My assumption is that he is neutered but I will verify. He has met other small dogs and its been positive.
- Deuce is 8 years old. The love of my life!!! Spoiled rotten. My other daughter has a yorkie (Maddie) and Deuce loves her, gets along well with her, but she ignores him so there's never a problem other than Deuce eating his food like its his last meal when she's around.
- Deuce points and/or barks when other dogs walk by our house. Most of which are BIG dogs. We don't interact since I don't know the owners.
- Boyfriend's dog (Moose) is visiting for Christmas - only one night.
- The plan is for Moose to sleep in his cage in our attached garage. Daughter says the dog likes it cold. (But we do have heat in the garage in case its really cold) I have allergies so I don't know if I will have a problem with this dog. Unfortunately he sheds but has been recently groomed.

Since the boyfriend has earned keeper status I would like to begin orienting Deuce to Moose under supervision. So I have some questions.

Do I introduce them inside or outside the house?
Certainly on leash right?
Do I hold Deuce or let him approach - if he does?
I know we may have to teach Moose how to act too.
My ultimate goal - I would like Deuce to be familiar with Moose and not go into a barking frenzy when he is here. Just treat him like he does Maddie. Most likely Moose will be outside and Deuce will be inside.

You know your dog best and his reactions to other dogs. Make sure Moose has been neutered, I assume Deuce is neutered, an un-neutered male can be very dominate and aggressive with another male
My suggestion is
introduce them outside of the house, on leash most definitely.
Take a short walk with them so Deuce can get a little bit acquainted with this big strange dog. While walking see how Deuce is reacting to Moose, if / when Deuce is or has calmed down them bring them both in the house, remember, that is Deuce's house.
Once they are in the house I would take the leash off Deuce but keep leash on Moose being held by the BF, let Deuce approach Moose to sniff him out.
I would not hold Deuce, I feel this may cause Deuce to think you are trying to protect him against this big dog, also you yourself are going to be a bit nervous and Deuce will sense this in you.
Do not feed, give treats or bits of food to Deuce while Moose is in the house, sounds like Deuce is food motivated and my get aggressive towards Moose over a little tidbit.
Because Moose gets along with DD little girl does not mean Moose will get along with Deuce as he is a male. If Moose is to frisky and Deuce is not use to being around big dogs let alone big frisky puppies I would watch Deuce very carefully, he could become scared, frightened and go for Moose.
BTW Deuce is a beautiful lil boy.

I personally would not leave a dog in a garage that seems kinda cruel in my opinion. I have never been one to follow special rules for introducing dogs and I have never had any issues but I also haven't really had dogs with that big of a size difference. I normally just let them run free in the house and watch closely.

Well as I said the garage has it's own heating and air conditioning system. It's my husband's man-cave. So it's not an oppressive environment. I just worry that Moose will be lonely and howl all night. If that is the case the BF can take him to his bedroom and confine him there.

Dogs generally arn't built to be alone that's the major reason I think it would suck for the poor pup. Mine would never be happy not in the same room as me at night especially in a strange place.

Hey I thought I'd let you know it worked out. Deuce and Moose aren't BFFs but Deuce got used to him after about 4 hours and did his own thing but with one eye on him. I guess in time they'll do OK with supervision. Deuce figured out that he could walk around under the table and not worry about Moose getting too close. Moose wanted to play. Moose slept in the guest room with his owner. My only comment is - That dog sheds like crazy. I'm certainly not used to that.
