Want to help stray cats
 
Hello
I want to help the stray cats in my neighborhood. It's starting to get pretty cold outside and these little buggers refuse to be indoors. I was looking at getting a heated outdoor shelter.
Does anyone know of any good outdoor kitty shelters that can be heated? It is only two of them so I don't need anything really big.

I used to put out a large milk crate with piece of carpet, then fluffy bed pillow, then fleece blankets and I'd find my sweet stray outdoor cat comfortably curled up in there even in single digit temps...You're such a honey to be concerned about these felines!!!

There is something about using a foam cooler. Keep in mind feral cats can carry rabies in fact in my state they are the lead carriers of rabies and they actually hurt the bird population.

Ill keep that in mind. I just moved here and it seems that they are at least being fed. I'm not sure if anyone has try to take them to a vet but my neighbor told me that when they had kittens, some animal organization came and got the kittens.

For some strange I actually think someone is taking care of them because those cats are fatter than my indoor cat.:p

We have feral cats that are bigger then my boy and he's 12 Lbs. In winter they look even bigger due to their winter under coat. I don't feed them. Some years back they were living under my deck in the winter, that was my girls hunting grounds, she ended up with fleas in the winter from the cats. I had to put chicken wire around the deck then put lattice to cover ugly chicken wire, no more cats. But poor Cody can't enjoy hunting like my girl did :(

What a true act of unselfish kind heartedness. Many years ago a truly great non profit organization in our community provided a service where they would help capture feral cat colonies, spay and neuter, give shots and release them back into the area that they were captured. The only stipulation was that a charitable human(s) agreed to feed them. It doesn't get really cold where we live so our barn provided shelter for many. We fed them kitty kibble plus they had free hunting rights to barn rats. These cats were never pets, but we had mutual respect for each other and all benefited from the arrangement. In fact we still have two, sometimes three who visit regularly.

Go for it, be a kind person.

Thank you. I've always been an animal lover and if I think an animal is suffering i will try to do something to alleviate it if I can. However I don't think these two are suffering. But I do want to provide them a warm place to stay. My neighbor told me she has been feeding them for a few years. I live on a quiet block with just a few of us and these two cats are apparently care for by the neighbors so I might as well do my part too. I just found out they have been around for a few years. It's good knowing my neighbors care for and love animals as much as I do. And I have to admit these two cats literally walk around like they own the block.....lol. Drives my dog crazy. I will try to get a video of how they love to taught Miss Duchess.
