Any opinions on those hard-as-rock elk antler sections that they sell at Petsmart? I didn't use to see them, but now they are all over the place--maybe it's a Christmas promotion because they look like reindeer. They look like they could crack teeth and splinter. Yuck!
Edit: Just found this article on AKC website: Are Antlers Safe for Dogs? - American Kennel Club | A couple of years ago I bought one antler, I have to assume it was deer. Cody wouldn't even touch it. I ended up throwing it out. It was very, very hard, I believe for small breed dogs it would break teeth. No more antlers for us. Years back with my girls I always gave them greenies, they never had any problems with them. After joining YT and reading about all the choking hazards of so many chews I use to give my girls with no issues what so ever, I don't now what to give Cody, I give him bully sticks, but not every night. Poor kid needs to chew something. |
