Is this normal????? Hi everyone...I havent posted in a while. Ive been going to school and its been hard to get online. But I'm back to see what ive been missing!! I love all ur yorkie babies so much!! They are all so beautiful!! Well I have a question regarding my baby Dolce. My sister just got a Puggle and she has come over to our house the past 2 nights. Both times we have let the dogs on the floor to play and everytime Max (my sisters dog) goes up to Dolce, Dolce runs away. We also noticed that everytime Max is here, she drools profusely and i was wondering if any of you have experienced this when u have introduced ur baby to new doggies. I mean I know Dolce ha not been around other dogs alot, and that is my fault, but she has been around my cousins yorkie here and there and she is scared with her too. She runs for the hills with every dog...I was just wondering about the drooling and if i should be concerned. Hopefully she will get better with Max because i know they are going to be around each other alot. I would love any insight because i know all of you give such great advice. It's great to see you back on YT. I've read that dogs can drool w/ nervousness, sexual arousal, illness, or overexcitement. Maybe short visits with positive reinforcement/treats might help? :confused: Schatzie too is nervous around other dogs she isn't familiar with and runs away. I would think in time Dolce will become buddies with often visits from her fur friends. Good luck! :) |

Might try getting them together for short visits on neutral territory..Sometimes it works well; others really not so well.. |
Is drooling normal in a Yorkie? Kind-of yes and kind-of no. How's that for an answer? Drooling is normal behavior for a dog who is stressed. Dolce is showing you how much anxiety she has about being around these other dogs. Do most of our Yorkies drool like that? I think the answer is probably no. There is a great article on desensitizing dogs to other dogs on ClickerSolutions.com. It takes time and patience, but would probably be well worth your effort expecially if you are expecting her to be around these other dogs frequently. http://www.clickersolutions.com/arti...ensitizing.htm You might also consider consulting a trainer privately. It's not an unusual problem. A good trainer would have lots of experience with this. Be sure you use a trainer who uses positive methods only! Anything less than positive will probably make Dolce worse. Glad you're back! |
Wow everyone is always soooo helpful!!! Thanks so much. I am going to try all of that because in the year and a half that I have had Dolce, she has never ONCE drooled, so i knew something was amiss right away. I knew it was anxiety...or at least i assumed it was, because i really had no idea!! lol Neutral territory huh?? I guess i am going to have to wait until Max gets all his shots before we could take them to the park or something. That little Max sure isnt a scaredy cat...chases Dolce all over the place and Dolce always jumps right up on the couch because she knows Max is still too little to get up there. As soon as Max falls asleep though, Dolce is going right up to him and sniffing away. I hope they become friends...I think that would be so great for the both of them.
