New to the forum: Kelly Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Kelly from Chattanooga, TN. I'm the proud mom of two 13 yr old Yorkies and one 6(ish) year old yellow Lab. Lexi was my first Yorkie. She turned 13 on July 2, 2017. I purchased her from a reputable breeder in Athens, Ga. She is 4 lbs and was recently diagnosed with kidney failure. She was the 1st love of my life. Dexter was my second. I adopted him from a woman going through a divorce and could no longer give him the attention he deserved. Although she promised me his papers, I never received them. It didn't really matter because I never intended to breed him or Lexi. I just wanted them to have a companion in each other. Although his birthdate is unknown, I do know he was born in October of 2004. He is now 13 years old. Last week, had a bad episode of AHDS, previously known as HGE. He is still on the road to recovery. Lolly was my full blown rescue and the 3rd love of my life. A beautiful 87 lb Lab. She was not quite a year old (according to the vet) when she was abandoned in my parents neighborhood. Covered in fleas, ticks, and God only knows what else, she was very malnourished and chose me to sweet talk into giving her a new home. I did, with no questions asked. Every dog deserves a place to call home. I believe Lolly is approximately 5-6 years old. Thank you for having me. I look forward to sharing stories. |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk, Kelly! :) I have lost pups to renal failure and have one right now who has been having issues. He was diagnosed a few years ago and has done pretty well. There is quite a bit of information on this forum about renal failure that you may find helpful. I hope Lexi is doing well. Is she on meds or a special diet? |

It's been a rough past few days. Lexi went back to the vet yesterday and they told me her days were numbered. I was sent home with an IV bag and needles to give her fluids. It's scary and she hates it. She's only 3.15lbs as of yesterday morning. They have her on Pepcid and gave me another med to coat her stomach yesterday. She is on Hill's K/D food but she doesn't really have an appetite. They told me to have a plan. We go back Thursday to see if the fluids have lowered her numbers. The vet said even if they're lower, the chances of her surviving much longer than a week or so isn't likely. My heart is breaking. Lolly, my lab has fallen ill as well. She is vomiting and has no appetite. I took her to the vet yesterday afternoon and blood work looks good, no fever, no parasites, no pancreatitis. They sent me home with Flagyl and gave her a couple of injections for nausea. I have to wonder if Lolly is just stressed due to Lexi dying and Dexter's episode last week. And I will post pictures as soon as I can. So much going on right now. |

SO...my advice for today... call your vet and get Mirtazapine if you have not tried it....and get a different food! :) When they are this sick I think it is fine to let them eat whatever makes them happy! Another tidbit.....one of the specialists I use has always said, "treat the dog, not the labs". Keep that in mind ... if I went by Rookie's numbers right now, I would let him go. So sorry about Lolly...do hope she is better soon! She could be stressed. So sorry you are going through so much. |
Welcome to YT, Kelly! So very sorry to hear about your little ones. I hope things will turn around soon! |
Sorry sorry to read your babies are sick. My thoughts are with you. |
Welcome and so sorry you are going through this. I had two pets who were sick at the same time as well. For awhile it seem like the vet office was my second home. Hang in there. |
Welcome to YT, so sorry to hear you have two sick babies. Prayers going out for wee lil Lexi. |
