Puppy Growth Hello! I have a little girl who is 2.65lbs and shes been at that weight for the past two vet visits, she is a little over 5 months old. The vet said she is pretty much done growing, what do you guys think? I'm worried she will be too fragile because she loves to play! |
There are a few growth charts online however its not also as accurate. You can use one, I think there are a few on the YT that you can use to gauge. Your baby may gain another pound or two after you spay but when I did the growth chart your baby was about 3.5-4.5pounds so don't fret too much. My Troy was 4.2 full grown and he was a joy to have. He wasn't frail but small. Emma is ~7 pounds and she likes to eat so she is a bit more solid if I was to use a term. |
:welcome4: :yorkietal So glad you joined our growing family of Yorkie Lovers It is very difficult to determine adult weight. Like Rachel said, there are many growth charts on line - but their accuracy leaves much to be desired. That being said, the few litters that my bitches produced have all followed the growth charts rather closely - with one huge exception - and that was little ButterBean who just stopped growing at 2.75 lbs. Butter is healthy - as a pup his forever mom and I had Butter tested every which way to determine if he had health issues, but there were none. He is definitely NOT fragile either - he lives on a farm and his favorite activity is chasing the chickens who dare to invade the backyard. Butter does have to be proected because he just doesn't understand the concept of being small of stature. |
Thank you guys for your replies! I own Argie's:dogsm3: brother(Bubbit), hes from a different mom but he is about 3.65lbs also. Ive done the growth charts and it says she will be around 3lbs. My friend has their other sibling from the same litter and hes already at 5lbs lol! What age do they usually stop growning? My other two yorkies where adults when i brought them into my home. |
It's hard to tell. One of mine mostly stopped growing at 7 months and the other at was still going until a bit over a year old. Its really just a guessing game. She could still get a little bigger but will probably still stay kinda tiny. |
Hard to say. Fabian came to us very tiny at 13 weeks. We were hoping for 5 to 5.5 lbs., based on the size of his AKA-registered parents. But the growth charts indicated he'd top off at only 3 - 3.5 pounds. At 9 months, he's a very robust 7.3 pounds, very long and tall and still growing. Since he's a pet and hiking buddy and not a show dog, we're not worried. You just never know. |
Fabian sounds awesome! And thank you everyone for your reply. I asked the breeder i got her from and she said her pups are usually full grown around Argies age probably just fill out some more, which is the same thing the vet suggested. She seems to be healthy, happy and tough so im not too worried anymore but I was a little worried when the vet said she was done growing... |
