blue born puppy?
 

Hi all!
I bought my Toby 1 week ago in a puppy store. I bought my puppy there because I did not like that puppy store. But the reason why I write is that I started to have suspicion that my Toby might be blue. He is 21 weeks old. He weighs 4 lbs. He is very playful beautiful pup. He has a whitish head and blue coat that is not very long. His eyes and nose are black. The hair on his ears are kind of sparse. Or may be I just overreact?
Please, help me to understand...

Hi & Welcome to YT !. Can you post a picture of your new baby ? If his nose is black then he's most likely not a blue born, but we will need to see a picture to tell for sure.

Welcome to YT. He looks all yorkie to me, his hair color will keep changing so don't worry about what color he is now. Did you take him to the vet for a physical when you got him. If not you should, when ever you get a new puppy they should been seen by a vet with in 24 to 48 hours after you get them to make sure they are healthy and for any shots he may need.

Your use the term "Blue Born" why?

Thank you for your replies. He looks somewhat different tan other Yorkies I know. I had Nunu for 15 years. He was black/tan when he was puppy. Toby has no black in his coat. In his papers he was listed like black/tan whan he was taken to the puppy store. But I have little trust to this store. He came from there with fleas and Giardia in the stool. Of course, I took him to the vet 4 days after he became family. Vet did not say anything about him being blue. I did not know anything about this problem. I was searching Internet about silver/blue Yorkies and read about such abnormality.

Nope definitely not a blue born just a regular Yorkie. Please in the future never buy from a pet store all those puppies come from puppy mills and by buying them supports the puppy mill. You also probably need to pet insurance ASAP because puppy from puppy mills normally end up with some kind of expensive genetic issues. Mine from a puppy mill has collapsing trachea, bad allergies, luxating patella, hypothyroidism, and possible cushings.

Thank you for all your help. I feel relieved to know that Toby is not blue. To tell you the truth I didn't have intension to buy puppy from puppy store. I stopped by to look at babies and I didn't like what I saw. Puppies were all together in one crate. People don't wash hands after touching puppies. I paid attention to this little puppy as he wasn't looking as a regular Yorkie. At that time I didn't know about blue puppies abnormalities. Besides, he looked too skinny with half of his ear chewd up. When I asked why his ear is half, they told me that another puppy shewed it. So, I didn't want to take him but then I thought that if I don't take him he will stay here even longer and it's not a good place for him. He spent in the store almost 2 months.
I know that it almost has no sense to have puppy from the store and have problem with him. It makes sense to me though as I fell in love. He is adorable boy and I love him.
My Nunu came from puppy store too and lived relatively long healthy life and was the love of my life.
I will let Toby to mature and will adopt another dog from shelter. My other rescue dog Peaches seems to like Toby.

Every single puppy I ever bought I bought them as you did, felt sorry to see them caged, not one of my puppies were ever planned. Someone would drag me into a pet shop, I would see the puppies and ended up coming home with her. This was many years ago before there was the word "puppy Mill".

Although you paid money for this little rascal, it's more of a rescue. Poor lil guy having his ear chewed. The term "Blue Born" I "think" you know it means it's an abnormality in the dog and they do not live long, they live very short lives.

All yorkie coats change colors. I had 2 yorkies with pure black coats, one had auburn face, chest and legs, the other had Gold face, chest, and legs. They stayed that color all their lives, then I had 2 silver and grey. My adopted by is tan and grey, he is now 6 yo and his coat keeps changing color. As I stated before, your puppy is still a baby and you will see many changes in his hair color. No need to fret, this is normal, he may not have the black coat as your last yorkie did, he may end up the traditional silver and tan.

When you take him to the vet ask the vet if he is Blue Born, just to put your mind at ease. I am sure there are tests to show if he is or not. One thing for sure, Toby is just adorable and he is lucky to have a momma like you.

I know it’s hard. It’s just best to stay away from those kinda stores.
