Yorkie growth question 3 Attachment(s) My Yorkie Ziggie is still very tiny at 6 months old, I always knew he would be around 3-3.5 lbs ...but size wise I thought he would grow more. He weighs 2.4 lbs which is in line with 3-3.5 but Length wise he is the size of a water bottle from Costco a regular kirkland 16 oz water bottle. He is chubby at 2.4 lbs because he is so small. Height wise his tips of his ears are just at the lid of the water bottle Almost a square shape if looking at him from the side. Is he going to get taller or longer? He still can't even fit in an extra extra small at the store. I custom make his clothing. I just worry because he is so tiny. He is healthy, vet checked and happy so far just very small and FULL OF ENERGY so he has to be supervised or put in a crate :( I want to let him just live life. Do you think he has done the majority of his growing or will get bigger? |
Awww, Ziggie is adorable. I can only relate to my personal experience with my yorkies. Generally their growth slowed dramatically once they reach 6 to 8 months and for all practical purposes they were full grown in terms of size/weight by a year. |
I thought the same, I have 3 yorkies and 1 stopped around 8 months the other had a small spurt at 1 year 3 months. But he was a rescue and we changed his food so I think with him he just was under nourished and caught up when he got on quality food. I am just worried ziggie will always need to be supervised. |
He will probably stay pretty tiny but he could grow a little more. You can also use an exercise pen if you want to give him a little more room then a crate unless he is like my youngest who can climb every and anything lol. |

Ziggie is too adorable. I'm not any expert and can't give you advice, just wanted to say how much I love:littleang |
Wondering what you mean by saying she may always have to be supervised? My little girl is now 9 years old and weighs 3.8 pounds. She can jump,up onto the sofa and has stairs beside the bed to get up and down at night. She does not jump off the bed - it is too high for her. She goes up and down the basement stairs at will. She runs agility and loves to play with he big ball in the back fenced yard. She jumps up on the back of the sofa so she can see out the window to bark at those pesky squirrels. Do you have other big dogs that could possibly hurt her? |
My Kiche is 3.5 lbs. He runs and plays with the other pups...one of my fosters is 14 lbs. I have found that the bigger ones are gentle .. they know they are bigger. He can go up and down the stairs to my bed without any issue at all. Ziggy is adorble :) |
