Grooming My Yorkie has anxiety issues after being neutered two years ago, every time I take him to the groomers he breaks out in a horrible rash. He digs and licks until he's raw. We've even had to have him treated at the vet. He does fine when I bath him. Could it be her shampoo or is it more likely the stress from separation. The vet put him on Prozac to help with anxiety. He does fine when we leave him home, ( we have a poodle as well who keeps him company) but if we take him out he freaks out. He loves to ride but is super anxious in the car. He does not break out in any of theses instances except the groomers. That's why I'm leading toward allergy. Any suggestions welcomed. |
Hello! Have your tried just going to the groomers to get some treats. Maybe have the groomer give them. Like, just drop in for a treat without the grooming part. Also you might need something that acts more quickly than prozac when you are going for grooming. You would need to talk to your vet, utntheee are meds that kick in more quickly than prozac to maybe help, them relax faster. Good luck! Keep us posted. I think dealing with grooming and vet visits for an anxious pup is not such rare issue and others here have probably some experience to add! |
Sounds like an allergy to me. :( |
I'm thinking there has to be an allergy to what the groomer is using. |
My puppy has allergies and the first groomer I took her to used something that made the itching much worse. I had to bath her af Gain immediately after she got home. The last groomer I took her to obviously used something different and she didn't have that problem. |

I did just that while I was growing out Lollie's show coat. I always took care of her grooming, but I had surgery and needed help with her coat for a short period of time. My groomer is an AKC exhibitor, so she fully understood my pickiness and had no problem with me bringing Lollie's hair products. I just put them in miniature bottles and labeled them :) |
fear of getting groomed Hi, New to the forum here...we just adopted my inlaws 1yr &1/2 old yorkie Benji. He's about 3-5 lbs and has never been taken to get groomed. He freaked out when we took him and they said they could not groom him. We are trying to get him use to the noise and feel of an electric shaver. Any suggestions on how to get him use to getting groomed he has so many mats in his hair. Thanks :) |
