Road trip question Have any of you taken your yorkies on a road trip and not planned where to stay yet? I am planning a trip to drive to FL in November but having difficulty figuring out where I am going to stop for the evening. I really just want to drive until I get tired and then find a hotel to stay at for the evening. The issue is my yorkies. I need a place that is pet friendly. I would also like to be close to the highway. I only have 2 1/2 to get to FL and 2 days to return back to NYC so no time for sight seeing. Has anyone ever booked a hotel last minute that allows pets? I always see signs for hotels along I-95. I know Holiday Inn is pet friendly. Are there any other chains that are also pet friendly? Thanks |
I have to much anxiety and OCD to do that lol. What I would worry about is thinking certain hotels were pet friendly then them not being and having to go to hotel after hotel after hotel when your already tired. |
Just a link to the dog friendly hotels https://www.bringfido.com/lodging/ Are you taking a smart phone? When my gf was moving up here from Dallas, I flew down to Love's field and we drove back to Illinois. We just checked hotels along the way when we drove and found a dog friendly hotel |
What about making a list of a few pet friendly hotels at different points along your route? Then, you could keep driving if you weren't tired yet... I believe some places are pet friendly, but they have only specific rooms available. So it's better to check ahead of time to reduce the stress of being super tired and no where to stay over night. |

Drove from CA to FL a few months ago. La Quinta and Best Westerns were both pet friendly and I could book them same day. |

Some hotels are "pet friendly" but there is a fee. :) Others have no charge for pets. We generally stop once on the way to So. Carolina and my husband tries to find the no charge places. They, generally are not 5 star but we just pull in, sleep, grab coffee and go in the morning. |
We kinda did this. I would google chains first of all... like there are some chains that are all around pet friendly usually no matter the location. Motel 6, Extended Stays, La Quinta. Then I would google their specific location to see the pet policy. But there are some chains that are pet friendly in certain locations and then another one might not be. Also I noticed a ton of billboards on the drive down to FL advertising and they usually would say Dog or pet friendly on the signs if they were. Nowadays it really takes a quick google and it's super easy to find pet friendly hotels but I would assume the problem you might run into when booking last minute is room availability. There were a few hotels that I thought wouldn't be booked & they ended up being booked especially the convenient ones right off of 95. Some also only have a certain # of pet friendly rooms. We had our best experience at a La Quinta honestly. It was the cheapest hotel & we ended up with the best service. And free breakfast. I don't think there was a pet fee. If there was it was minimal? Extended Stay charged $25 per night. We stayed at the La Quinta in Savannah off I-95. Great location! We stayed at a really nice expensive hotel The Kimpton Brice in Savannah and it was a fantastic location downtown, could walk everywhere, no pet fee, they loved dogs (we got a free bowl & poop bag holder lol and treats) but I wasn't impressed with the food there and the room was tiny for being so $$. It's pretty easy to travel with dogs nowadays, especially small ones. But I definitely like to be a little bit prepared and book at least a few days ahead of time just in case. They usually let you cancel up to 24hrs so it doesn't hurt to book one even if you end up finding a more convenient one. |
Chester has been traveling with me since he's six months old and he's almost 15. I have stayed in La Quinta's Best Western Holiday Inn Express and Motel 6 Motel 6 is free and all the others are 15-20 and night. The other hotels would probably be 15 $20 and night. You could pm me, I go on the road with chester all the time. |
