Ears not standing? Hi everyone, my puppy is now 10weeks old and his ears are still not standing, I wonder if my vet can do anything about it or is it a sign of another illness? (My Gigi already got Kennel Cough). When do the ears of a puppy normally start to stand up? Many thanks, D. |
I just asked this same question on the yorkie health board. My little guy is 11 weeks old and his ears aren't standing either. As cute as he is with floppy ears, I really want them to stand. I'm thinking about taping here if they don't start standing.... |

1 Attachment(s) I didnt have such great results with using tape on the ears so this is what I did and it works and much easier to place and remove.... all you need is a paper sack, pair of sissors and so fabric glue.. cut a large V shape from the paper bag glue it on one side and let the glue get tacky then paste the V inside the ear...it works like a charm and washs out with water. If it begins to curl, just replace it... Take them out in about 3 days...repeat again if it didnt work the first time and until it does... good luck this pic has my babies with the sacks |

at any fabric store but only buy the glue that desolves in water... it works...hope that helps |

So you took some water soliuble glue put some on the brown paper or possibly fabric? Then glued two pieces to the ear sandwiched in between. Is that correct, because I will try anything. I seem to have been told about this to late my puppies are 6 months old. I am at a lose as to what to do? thank you for any help or possitive remarks |
don't use fabric ....not stable enough! you need the paper sack or something stiff (like lite card board) and place the glue on that let it get tacky and then place on the inside of the ear.... 6 months...it may be too late but anything is worth a try and be constant until they stand, which should be in about 3-5 days if your lucky... have you shaved the ear about 1/3 down from the top? you need to do that to less the weight on the ear.... inside and back like an upside down V. I shave my adults ear every month... hope this helps |
We just kept the hair short on Lucy's ears without tape and they were fine! :animal-sm |

A coupla years ago, I read an article written by a man who swore he could get ears to stand, no matter the age. He used the brown paper bag too, but only used the overlap portion. The ears were shaved completely and the paper triangles that were cut to the size of the ear were stuck on both sides of the ear. The outside base was glued to the hair so it would help hold the ears upright. He swore it worked but I never tried it. He did stress the overlapped portion of the bag. If anybody tries it, please let us know if it works. I might have to do it with Chrystel Marinda, one of my Biewers..her ears had been taped in Germany(I think) and they were taped without any shaping to them. They stand like an open hand or something. Not cupped, I guess would be the best discription. |
I tried the tape several times....didnt work well but it didnt help that I had 4 puppies riping each others out all the time...so perhaps you will have better luck...remember the everytime you tape you remove hair...so it is no pain to the baby with the sack like the tape it when removing it... with the sack and fabric glue I have gotten three of the puppies ears to stand the runts are being stubborn.... |
I never had trouble with Fred's ears standing. When I brought him home at 8 weeks, his ears were already standing. Just to make sure they stay, I used to hold him in my lap and massage his ears with my thumb and index finger. Maybe you can try masssaging them. Also, my breeder shaved his ears which probably helped a little. |
