Yorkie Hair looks greasy So I am new to Yorkies and new to the Board. My baby is 13 weeks old. He hasn't had a trim or cut yet. Every time I give him a bath, the next day he looks totally greasy. Is that normal? He looks so dirty yet he is not. I have used: Oatmeal Shampoo Alone: Greasy looking the next day PetHead Shampoo Alone: Greasy looking the next day PetHead Shampoo and Conditioner: Even greaser the next day A friend who owns Yorkies recommended using a mild form of dish detergent but my head spun around 100 times because that doesn't sound safe but then again I know nothing about Yorkie hair or skin. What do you suggest? |
Well, fine hair IS prone to oil. Unfortunately. I use tropiclean medicated, and it cut out the oils and stopped drying out her skin. There are even better out there, and am very close to calling chewie's now retired from grooming groomer to ask her shampoo, because that stuff made my girl's hair shine and she could go 10 days without a bath of any kind- which is MUCH better for their sensitive skin. however, the tropiclean will work while you find the perfect one. |
Thank you JP. I will be ordering it now to start. Please, keep me in mind if you find the one that your groomer used. Thanks for your help |
When my pups were little I used Biogroom Fluffy Puppy because it was tearless and their faces really needed washing. I have since switched to Minksheen (bought directly from Touch of Mink) I have found rinsing one more time after you think you are done is really helpful. Also handcream can make a dog, especially a puppy that gets touched and petted constantly, really greasy looking. |
I started using Petsilk shampoo and conditioner on my girls. Monroe was getting greasy like that too. I shampoo them twice and then rinse the conditioner a bit more than I think is necessary and they both stay oil-free for 7-10 days. |
Thanks Monroe. I will definitely buy this one too. I am going to have to start selling shampoos online from all the inventory I will end up with. Thank you so much. I love the way my pooch looks the first day but the next day is really bad. |

Email Biogroom, they will send you samples for free (& you can make requests)! http://www.biogroom.com/ Remember to rinse very well & avoid any shampoos containing oatmeal....not the best for canines. If they're sensitive to grains, they'll have problems w/ oatmeal in shamp & cond. |
