6 years old is an adult, but we are talking about a 6 year old rescue. A dog that will come into your home, everything will be new and strange to him, he will be weary of everything and everyone. He will need time to adjust, it could take him days or weeks to gain trust in his new family, surroundings, routine. Your daughter will have to be very gentle with him, she will have to speak in gentle tone/voice. I was very lucky with my 2 1/2 yo boy, he bonded with me immediately which I would say is very rare. Your rescue shelter can say he is child friendly but it also depends on the child". You have to understand, someone else raised him, you don't know what his life with the previous owner was like, you and your wife will be a new pet owner, so both you and the dog will be learning about each other, yorkies can be very crafty babies, that's why we love the breed lol. Adult dogs get sick too, not just puppies so having the finances for medical treatment is a must. We are all just trying to give you the "if's" so you are aware all responsibility will be yours and your wife's. |

Quick update, we saw the dog and he turned out to be 9 years old and a bit overly laid back for our needs. So the search continues :). Thank you, Avi. |

You honestly cannot tell how a pup is based on one visit. I encourage you to find a rescue that fosters their pups in homes for a period of time where they evaluate their personalities. |

I agree that is an excellent idea. |
Don't give up! Yorkies are wonderful pets! children and yorkies can both be taught to live together peaceably lol. I've got five children and two yorkie puppies and they all get along wonderfully. Previously, I had a yorkie Daisy (RIP), and she practically grew up with my children and she was like another sibling to them. Yes, yorkies are extremely fragile, but if you teach your 6yo daughter how to interact with a new yorkie, chances are they'll be the best of friends with no issues. |

How very, very sad that a baby his age has to be rehomed, makes my eyes tear up. There are a few angels out there and we do have them on YT that would take this precious senior in, I pray Gizmo finds his angel. |

I know a lot of people will disagree with me and while there are all sorts of articles claiming some dogs are hypoallergenic, I can tell you I have seen many people surrender dogs because they or their children were allergic to them.
