Taking Yorkie to Dubai from South Africa Good Day to all the Yorkie Parents! This is my first time posting. I have been given an opportunity to work in Dubai. My husband and I currently reside in South Africa with our little hairy child Luigi who is 5 years old. Now I have done extensive research with regards to the formalities of taking Luigi with us. He is fine to go to Dubai without quarantine however when we return to South Africa he will be quarantined for at least a month, which is completely out of the question. So our solution is to take him to Dubai, when my contract is up we will fly over to London to stay with my sister in law for 2 months and then return to South Africa because if Luigi comes from the UK to South Africa he will not be quarantined. Now my question is, would you say its wise to subject our lil man to so much travelling and to uproot his life if it might only be for a year. Because the alternate option is for myself to go over and work and my husband will stay with Luigi in South Africa so he is not alone. How will my leaving and being away for a year affect Luigi? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as we really do not know what is the best for Luigi, we are humans and can cope but we do not want Luigi to be stressed out in any way. He is literally our everything and only want the best for him. Thanks! |
Welcome. It sounds like you have really put a lot of thought into this. I think some would rather suffer the travel with you then be separated from you. I guess it depends on the dog's personality. If you can bear to be away from him and your husband for that length of time and they will be happy without you then I guess I would not subject him to the travel. Sorry, my geography knowledge is not that good so I really don't know exactly how long flights would be and if you are allowed to keep your dogs with you in the cabin or they have to fly as cargo there. |
Thanks so much for your response. The flight is 8 hours to Dubai and 8 hours to London so all in all in a year he would travel on 3 different 8 hour flights to ensure he is with us all the time. Unfortunately the laws to bring him into Dubai and UK only allows dogs to come via cargo they are not allowed in the cabin, which is also a worry. I have contacted various pet relocation companies and they advised the animals are well looked after in the cargo the temp and lighting is the same as in the cabin to ensure no stress to the animals. I obviously wouldn't want to be away from Luigi and my hubby for that long but I would be willing to make that sacrifice to ensure Luigi is comfortable and safe at all times...I really am very torn!! For the last 5 years we have never been one night away from Luigi. |
I would be worried to death about my dog flying in the cargo hold. I have seen some horror stories here in the US. However, I would be devastated to leave my fur kids behind. I would never be happy away from them. My first step would to be call the airlines and discuss traveling with pets. Also speak with others who have experienced having a pet fly in the cargo area. Oh gosh! Your dilemma is giving ME anxiety  |
