11 week old micro tea cup eating issues So we have had our yorkie (sage) for 3 days now and she will not eat been trying to force her to eat the stuff from the tube as we did with our other yorkie as a puppy but she gags herself till it comes back out Any suggestions please help in fear of her blood sugar getting to low |
No such thing as a teacup it is just a word used by bad breeders to make extra bucks. If you are not careful when force feeding her she can aspirate it and get pneumonia. Are you feeding what the breeder was feeding? Have you tried soft food? Maybe a little boiled chicken? |
I had to crush up my little Bowies food. It is the same that the breeder used. But he was eating whole and got sick a couple of times. He isn't micro but 1.5 lbs 10 weeks today. Might try that and soaking in hot water to soften. Hope your baby is ok!!! Prayers. Remember tiny tummy and feed small amounts 3-4 times a day |
You can also try sprinkling a little bit of grated Parmigian cheese on his food, the yummy smell usually perks up their appetite. Also boiled boneless chicken cutlets shredded on top of the food. |

First...is this your first yorkie...? If so, just be sure that you're very, very careful with these little ones - they can be quite fragile for the first 5 months. Are you feeding the *exact* same thing that the breeder was feeding...? If not, you DO want to feed whatever the pup was eating good while with the breeder...and continue to feed that for at least 3 weeks+, until puppy settles in. Only then would you want to consider new foods. If you are feeding the same thing, but she is still not eating -- then you absolutely MUST get her to a vet asap. Dogs refuse to eat when something is wrong. Give Nutrical about 4x a day to supplement - especially just before bed and right when you rise in the morning - do that for the first 3 wks if concerned about blood sugar. Has she shown signs of hypoglycemia...? What is going on w/ her poos - are they normal...? Lastly, just please be aware that there is no such thing as a "teacup yorkie" or "micro teacup" -- these are just marketing words made up by unscrupulous breeders who are trying to get you to pay more for a "teacup". A yorkie is just a yorkie, no matter if 2 lbs or 22 lbs - no such thing as teacup. |
How old is she (just reread I see she is 11 weeks) and how much does she weigh? When I was breeding I always made sure they were eating dry food well before leaving my home. You should always feed the same food she has been eating. If she is only 8 weeks you need to soften the food and warming it enhances the smell and makes them more likely to eat it. I hate to recommend giving chicken (just because she will get spoiled and it will be harder to get her eating dog food), but if she isn't eating at all then do what you have to do. I recently had a pregnant dog go totally off food with morning sickness and wouldn't even eat chicken. Someone suggested I go get canned cat food and what do you know she ate it. Have you taken her temperature just to make sure she is not ill? Contact the breeder - they know the puppy best - is it possible to have her spend a little more time with the breeder? |

If you didn't change her food, but she is still not eating - then you need to see a vet. Dogs refuse to eat when something is wrong  |
