Tap or Bottled Water When we got our yorkie we were warned about tap water being bad for yorkies, I guess the chlorination? For 2+ years we have used bottled water. Is purified water really necessary (not distilled) or is tap water okay? |
Mine always drank tap water. For my older girl she drank tap city water for 5 or 6 years then we moved and we have well water now and she's been drinking that the last 5 years. The younger two have only had our well water. We all drink tap water. |
Use Gerber Water. No chlorine and less eye discharge. |

I guess I should clarify...........By "tap water" I meant City water that is chlorinated vs Purified Bottled water that still has the minerals but not the chemicals used in city water. Well water, unless you chlorinate your well with a chlorine injection system, would be free of those things already. |
Many years ago when I lived in the city my dog drank tap water, my pup was 6 years old when I moved to the country and we had well water. My pups poops were soft and mussy from the change in the water. I drove to my city job and would take a gallon jug, filled it with tap water several times a week, with the city tap water her poop was back to normal. My adopted boy Cody has the same issue, he cannot drink well water, poop is soft and mussy, so he drinks only Poland Spring bottled water. I tried other brands of bottled water, they did not improve his poop and he didn't like those brands. I always thought bottled water was all the same, it must taste dif. to dogs that Cody wouldn't drink them. So it's Poland Spring ONLY for him. |
I give Booboo nothing but bottled water. I don't like or drink our well water. I am not going to make him drink something I wouldn't drink myself. |
I personally think it depends where you live. I've travelled to different places and some tap water tastes really bad compared to others. We're very lucky in Vancouver to have amazing clean water - so amazing that it (imo) tastes better than some bottled water. But even so, I give my babies filtered tap water. My reason was to reduce the tearing in their eyes. The minerals in the tap water seemed to contribute to some staining and after switching to filtered, there was noticeable improvement. |

Like Canana, I give Penny filtered tap water. I also give it to my birds. I think it is definitely the best choice for her. We moved from a house with well water that was really good to city water. That is why I filter |
I do both! I do take bottle water with us when we travel because some tap water gives her a digestive issue (runny poop) similar to what others have described. |
I thought fluoride in water was bad?....https://iaamb.org/is-flouride-safe/ I give them bottled water since we can't drink tap water here. You also have to be careful of fluoride in bottled water. IBWA Brands Containing Fluoride | IBWA | Bottled Water |

Fluoride is toxic to dogs in large quantities, that's why we shouldn't use human toothpaste on them: https://www.vetary.com/dog/condition/fluoride-poisoning |

Sunny always gets bottled water. We are in a rural area and have some not-so-great well water full of minerals, so, in spite of a softener (one of those massive units in the basement that you put salt in) we don't risk it. Heck, he gets the high quality gerber chicken from the Amish farmers market, so of course he gets spring water! |
