Help.. cut Max hair down for the summer or not Max had a terrible groom in august where they cut his hair down. I had wanted to keep it long so he hasn't had a cut since. But with summer hot weather I'm thinking I should cut him down. Afraid as slow as it grows back it wont be long by winter. Also I keep his face long and I know if I have her trim it all down it will never be long again. But those stray hairs in his eyes drive me crazy. If I snip a little short the next day there is more. He is so cute long but does your dogs suffer in the summer heat? Max loves sitting outside on the porch |
We live in the south east which stays in the low to mid 90's in the summer. My boy has long hair. Doesn't seem to bother him. When we go outside he will plop down in the sun. (He's sun baking) lol I have to pick him up because I'm HOT! We do take water when we walk. When we come inside with the AC running he seems to be chilled. Go figure. |
I had two girls (now passed) that were kept in full coat in the summer, it didn't seem to bother them and one was a swimmer, could not keep that girl out of the water, so maintenance on her was high, her hair was kept an inch off the ground. The other full coat girl maintenance was a bit more then winter, her coat was not very long but she picked up grass and what not. They both would bask in the sun on the hottest day, I would have to force them to stay in shaded areas, I was a camper at this time. |
Interesting..maybe I won't have him cut shorter when she comes back in 3 weeks. She said she could do a A/C cut which you can't tell he got shaved so I'm thinking that's a belly shave. It would keep their little belly cooler when they lay in The grass. It's taken 9 months to get it past his belly so I was afraid cutting him down wouldn't be good come winter. But looks like he might be a snowbird or would that be snowpuppy in Florida next winter.. fingers and paws crossed! |
Honestly unless there hair is really thick it doesn't do much because they don't have fur they have hair like is on our heads. It really doesn't do much to keep them warm and stuff. Mine are in a puppy cut all the time and wear clothing. |
