Groom Paws & Pads We have hardwood floors so during our snowy cold winters we keep our pup's paws well clipped so she is less likely to slide and slip on the floors. Now that spring and summer are here are we are outdoors and going on walks on sidewalks and across streets etc. and the weather heats up into the 90s and occasional 100 degrees, is it better to let the hair grow over the pads to protect them or still important to keep the hair trimmed off? (We know not to let her on surfaces that could burn her pads.) :animal-pa:animal-pa |
The hair won't protect him you would need shoes for that. The longer hair will pick up lots of things and it can mat between the paw pads. |

:animal-pa Thanks! |
My preference is to keep the paws as natural as possible. There is a reason for things like in-between-paw-pad-hair and ear hair etcetera. The paws are *extremely* vascular and innervated - so the hair is there partly to protect the more tender/vulnerable areas from foreign bodies. I don't trim any of my dogs' paw fur, I let it wear naturally. :) |

We had an issue last spring/summer with sap that got on her paws. Without hair it might have really gotten on her pads. But, like you, we don't want any injuries or physical stresses caused by sliding. Thanks for sharing your experience. |
