Im new Just want to say hello!!! I have one yorkie, maisy, and am about to get another. Not sure if it will be a boy or a girl!!! Can't decide!!! I've never had a little boy. Does anybody have any boy advice if I do get a little boy??? |
Hello. I would make sure your female is spayed before getting a boy. Other then that boys are pretty great. I have two girls and a boy and my boy is the one who likes to cuddle the most. |
I always have my babies spayed😉 healthy babies are priority!!! And the new baby will be spayed or neuterd |
I have heard from my breeder friends that boys are more cuddly! |
I'm seriously considering getting a little boy!! I heard the same. I also hear that there is less jealousy when there is a boy and a girl |

I would just recommend spending time with the parents and the litter before you choose if possible, whether it's a boy or girl. And do temperament tests to make sure the puppy's personality fits with your house. When we got our little girl she also had a brother who was super cute and fun but he was a bit too feisty for our house. Here is an excellent AKC article on temperament testing. Ok I read the test and that is EXCELLENT advice. Thank you Baleighi!!! The breeder isn't in my hometown so I will be traveling to see the this coming weekend. So excited!!! To be choosing my new baby!! He or she won't be coming home since only seven weeks still. But its definitely a reputable akc accredited breeder. I have spoken with her at length and am very comfortable with her and her breeding program. |
In total over the last 30+ years I have had 4 females, I had a pack of 3 girls at one time, all got along fantastically, they ate from their own dish side by side, never a growl or snarl. But, that's how I trained them, I was the "pack leader". Over the years they passed away one by one. My last girl lived to be 17 Years old, her loss was over whelming, I swore no more dogs, the loss of them is to traumatic. 6 weeks after my girl went to rainbow bridge I was still grieving, cried all the time, my house was so empty, my heart was so dead. My vet called me, they had just gotten a male surrender, 2 1/2 yo, not an abused dog, she begged me to just come see the dog. I never wanted a male dog because they mark everything, I told this to my vet, she said he was nurtured, some mark some do not. I told her all the reasons why I didn't want another dog, but she kept pleading with me to just come see this dog, she kept saying Joan, this is your dog. Well, to appease my vet and out of respect for her to think of me when this dog came to her, I went JUST TO SEE THE DOG knowing I would NEVER have a male dog. When I saw this little guy at my vets lunch room running to every tech that entered the room, so friendly, I thought who could toss this little guy out of their lives. So he came home with me lol. We are a team for 3 years now, and what I can say about boy vs girl yorkie is, lol, boys sure are mommas lil boy, he MUST be touching me all the time if we are on the sofa, heat of summer, cold of winter, this boy is pressed into my thigh. He is more of a cuddle bug then any of my girls ever were. Good luck in choosing that perfect lil puppy, girl or boy, ya just can't go wrong with either sex. As a PS. my boy does not mark, he is house broken, makes only outdoors, he squats to pee, no marking in the house, he is a PERFECT boy and very, very smart, learns new commands very fast. |
Get a boy! I need to live vicariously through the people on here!! I won't EVER be able to get a boy as a companion for chewie, so I love seeing the pictures and reading such great stories on here. |

Well I am leaning towards a boy, I understand the heartbreak of losing these precious babies. My little Allie Claire passed away the day after Easter. I miss her so very very much. This new little love won't replace her. He or she will only add to My heart!!! Matese I'm so happy for you and your little boy that you found each other❤❤❤ |
I agree that not all boy dogs mark. Sunny just turned 7 and has been fixed (at maybe 8 months?) and has never marked- in fact he has never lifted his leg! My baby still squats like a baby, lol. |
Awwww!!!! Yes I do understand that as long as they are neutered early enough that they may never lift their leg at all. Big plus!!! |
Getting Your Pick of the Litter Quote:
We also traveled to choose our pup after a lot of background work. The hardest part was that we had to be prepared to come home without having chosen a puppy if there was anything wrong with the parents or the pups or just couldn't find one that seemed right for us. Luckily we found the perfect little girl. She was old enough to come home with us so that was nice - no wait! Wish you all the best and hope you find the perfect yorkie for you. :aimeeyork |
That awesome!!! I do hope so much that I find the perfect baby!! Thank you all for such sweet responses!! I will let you all know what happens😀😀😀❤❤❤ |
When my husband and I decied to get a dog, we agreed that since he was letting me get a small dog, which he did not want it had to be a boy. Best decision ever! My boys (because we couldn't decide which one to get so we had to get 2) are the sweetest, most loving cuddle babies ever, but they love to play like little boys. If I am sitting they need to be with me, if I'm standing I should be holding them (mostly Atlas- he is truly a mama's boy). We had them neutered at 6 months and they don't mark inside, but outside they do mark. Kronos lifts his leg but Atlas doesn't. I don't think you can really go wrong either way but my experience has made me fall in love with having boys and I couldn't be happier. |
