Bone Supplements? Being new to the Yorkie world, I was surprised to learn they are so fragile. The way Sylvie rockets off the bed and the back porch into the yard now has me concerned. Are there specific bone supplements I should feed her? She's about 12 pounds and estimated to be 2 years old. Thanks in advance for the information. |
Not really. You can do a joint supplement but she probably is fine. |
As long as she is eating a good dog food, you don't really need to supplement for bones. If you want a good multi - I like Natures Farmacy multis. Very good! |
My boy is also 12 pounds and fly's through the air off the deck into the yard. I don't worry as long as he lands on all 4's. He has kangaroo genes in him, he likes to jump straight up into the tress after that pesky squirrel and lands on his hind legs, I discourage this as I fear the weight on his hind legs hitting the deck or the ground will cause damage. I have always had bigger yorkies, 9 to 17 pounders, leaping off things never cause bone issues. |
With a Yorkie my first concern is always the joints. Too many Yorkies have bad knees. If your vet has recently checked your baby's knees and hips ad they are fine then feeding the best food possible is helpful to keep them healthy. If anyone does want to use a supplement a food based supplement is best. Food based supplements are absorbed into the body and assimilated while synthetic supplements (which most are) are mostly excreted out of the body. A food based supplement may cost a little more but at least you and your pet are getting your money's worth. |
