Multiple dog house hold, spay question
 
Ok this is kind of a question for multiple dog owners. I will talk to the vet about it also but wanted every ones opinions. Penny is 8 months and gets spayed on the 9th. Her and my one year old Joey play a lot. The last time I dealt with a spay was 10 years ago when Callie was spayed and she was an only dog. Do I need to keep her in like a play pen? I have a nice one I can add pieces to to make pretty much whatever size I want. I'm just not sure what I should do. I know she will be pretty out of it the first day but what about after that? Any suggestions or tips?

When I had my pack of 3 and the baby got spayed, vet said no running, jumping for 2 weeks, keep her quiet. The day after her spay she was rearing to go, one would never know she just had surgery, but I kept her confined, away from the other 2. That was quite a few years ago, medical Technology has changed greatly, but mine had to stay quiet for 2 weeks, no rough housing.

I know they use laser now and that is supposed to make healing quicker. I guess I won't know until I talk to the vet when I pick her up afterwords. I think I might go ahead and make sure the play pen pieces are easy to get to.

When Bella had her laser surgery spay, the vet told us to (1) keep her from licking her stitches and incision, and (2) no jumping on the couch or bed, or stair climbing or excessive physical activity. Other than that, we did not have to keep her restrained. She was her full energy self within two days. If there is any possibility that the other dogs will roughhouse or lick her stitches, I'd keep her separated. Oh, also the vet did not send Bella home with any pain medication. I had to ask for some Metacam the next day. She was a lot happier with the Metacam.

I fear they will rough house because they enjoy doing that. Also not sure I could limit her from jumping either. I got an estimate for her spay last time we were in and it had pain meds and everything on there. I opt for pretty much all the "extras" like doing it with laser and fluids. She also has a baby canine that has to be removed.
