New pup question heat/ac I'm wondering if yorkies get cold? I keep my house at 65 in the winter and use air conditioning in the summer. Should I have a heating pad under his beds? Or should he always have a sweater on? |
yes they can get cold but an absolute no to the heating pad..its too dangerous! as far as a sweater I watch my dogs if they seem uncomfortable, shivering, etc they get a sweater. That seems to only happen occasionally:) |
Thanks for your help!! I was a bit nervous about the safety of a heating pad too but then they offer them on every pet website so I thought I'd ask someone with experience! I feel like there is just so much out there that's advertised as safe but it isn't! Thanks again! I'll just keep a sweater on hand. |

Mine wear clothes all the time sweaters in winter and tanks in summer. Heating pads can be a fire hazard. |
So much conflicting info! |
If the Yorkie is a puppy, the temperature should be 69 degrees at the lowest (I read that in a book.). However, if it's a grown dog, you can get by with sweaters in the winter (if it's chilly in the house). Unless you keep the house really cold in the summer, you might not need a sweater in the summer. We keep our house at 63 degrees night and 67 day in the winter. In the summer, we keep it 67 degrees night and 70 degrees day. Since we keep our Bella in a crate with plenty of blankets on the nightstand at night, we generally don't use a sweater except on the coldest days in the winter. We don't use a sweater during the summer at all. |
