top paw harness is a piece of junk :l Hey guys. I've been trying to adjust this harness we bought on the spot when we got the dog. It's a top paw harness, and neither the collar nor the friggin harness adjust well. They're irking me as I can't figure out how to make it tighter and to stay tighter... any tips? |
If its the step in ones they can be hard to size. I bought one when I got each of my dogs and used them until they were full grown and then bought buddy belts. |

How often do I need to replace harnesses and leashes? I was thinking of getting her a stronger leash that while being lightweight if she chewed on it--- it wouldn't break, snap, etc... They sell these thin wire like leashes -- I think they're made of metal they look like they're braided. I know it's over kill but... I've had dogs get lose in different occasions so I prefer caution. I've had sasha's collar(she uses collar as she's a bigger dog) snap after a few months.. others after 2 years... luckily she is very much loyal to my mom so she stayed by there. |
They can't reach Buddy Belts so they won't be able to chew on it if you left it on. They're pricey but very long lasting ($50+). Buddy Belt came out with a slightly lower cost harness (~ $20), same style, but made with pleather instead of real leather. You should visit Maximo's website - she sells them! We all swear by Buddy Belts. :) As for leash - I only use leather leashes. If you ever visit a dog show in your area, they always have booths that sell them. |
A Buddy Belt is your best harness. Like others say, your little one can't get to it to chew. They are soooo durable, will last your pups lifetime. Yes, it's pricy, but really good. Also, the Buddy Belt will not choke if they pull on a leash. Check Kristin's threads & she will set you up with one. She is so very nice and informative. |

I think we have the same harness. I had to buy a kitten harness because the puppy's still so small. The pet store employee helped me size it the first time. It's a major pain to use. I can't wait til he grows big enough to fit the harnesses we THOUGHT would fit him when we picked him up. <g> |

I like my leather leashes because it's soft on my hand and it's durable. You wouldn't have to replace it unless your little one chews it up. Leather definitely won't snap on you. I like things clean too - but the leash I rarely clean. I don't let them roam around with the leash dragging on the floor, so it's relatively clean. I bought this leather soap for it, called Saddle Soap, for whenever I feel like cleaning it. |
We use the inexpensive nylon leashes and nylon harness with velcro fasteners from Walmart without any trouble, but Bella is not a chewer. She's a licker :D. We still use her original leash from 4 years ago. We only had to change the harness because she got bigger. |
