Got my new dog! Not a yorkie! (mixed feelings)
 

Hello guys, I finally got my dog.

I found this dog on petfinder days ago and kept looking at her. Noticed she was so close and decided to check her out today.

I asked to see the dog but they asked me to fill out a form. I didn't realize it was an adoption form but I filled it out anyways. It wasn't really intrusive at all. They allowed us to play with the dog, and I fell in love with her. So did my mother.

So we asked about her some more, she's apparently 1 year old but it's really just a guess.

She was a stray, she likes to hug (as if she was going to hump-- but she doesnt hump) and does it to get picked up.

She likes to be picked up.

She's friendly, calm, and very tolerant. She was shy though and would hide under places. I feel as if she may have gone under some abuse. But anyways she started to like me after a while and now she follows me around.

She is 100% untrained and I just started her basic training.

So they told us to bring our other dog for a meet and greet. I asked them to hold on to the dog for me for a few hours as I had some errands to do and I really wanted her.

So they made an exception and waited for me.

So when I come home and bring our dog with us. She was all over the place hyper, happy and just barky.

So they took a little while to get used to but they never bit each other. They just ignored each other.

we were moved to a smaller room for another test and they had her off leash and I had mine off leash. They still ignored each other, as my moms dog focused on her, and the other dog focused on other one of us.

We decided to adopt her, paid the nice ladies the adoption fee/donation/whatever and at the time some guy with a massive rottweiler(havent seen those in years so it looked massive to me about half the size of a full grown man or maybe a bit taller.

Anywho, our dog is barking and growling at it because she's afraid of big dogs so she warns the other dog to back off(or I assume).

Then "Reba" (which I now changed to Magnolia) let out a bark fit for a big dog breed and even little Sasha looks at her surprised. We bought stuff for her and took her home and the moment Sasha saw another really big dog walking by she barks at it and that's when Magnolia decides to growl again. So it's like they're kind of getting along ? they're now playing together.

Magnolia made soft stool at around 6-7pm and soon again I will be taking her out again.

She has a case of dandruff, and has a ton of shedding fur.

Not sure what to do about the dandruff but for the shed I am going to comb the crap out of her tomorrow as she likes being held.

I am slowly starting her training and will continue to do so daily.

I just wished she was a yorkie or part yorkie. But, at the same time- I wouldn't change her for the world.

Thanks. That she is, and while she is untrained her personality won me over.

I am going to be extremely transparent right now that what I really wanted was a puppy (2-5month old with papers saying the date of birth) but I knew that you can't really expect that because most of these dogs are either strays or abused.

She seems to show caution and a bit of fear but she's open to love and when I put her down at one point she cried a little so I would pick her up.

I tried throwing a squeaky ball to her and she went to it but didnt take interest.

She came along with this plushy they gave me for her (it was cheapo toy but works because she likes it) so she picks it up by the ear and carries it into the crate. Like she wants to be in a crate or somewhere small/shelter.

Her dandruff is a tad bad but we'll work on it

Thank you. :) They had this big pitbull and it was rather calm and a tad friendly. Got me thinking maybe I shouldn't be so scared over all pitbulls. Gave me a perspective. While I still would never own one (I can't deal with a big dog for physical reasons); I respect them.

Congratulations, Magnolia is a little cutie,I agree breed doesn't matter, you and your mom fell in love with her, and Sasha has accepted her which is sooo important, and you adopted a stray dog. Who knows how long she was without a home eating what ever she could find. Bless you and enjoy your new BFF.

I love that about her too. It's a rich nutty brown, I can't explain it, like that of an acorn? But then again acorn colors aren't 100% consistent so I'd say more like a brown honey color. (I was thinking of calling her Honey because of it but I already named a previous pet that).


True in some sense. But on another side of that coin, breed matters to some extent. I could love a dog like a husky and still would not be able to keep or want it because of say the extremely high energy level which to some extent might be comparable or even exceed that of say a Jack Russel Terrier. A different way to say that is; I love Pomeranian but they're insane amount of hair would be too much to keep up with.

She's a lot smaller than my mothers dog and because I am sad to admit that I am completely out of shape(blegh) holding her for an hour and a half with one arm(she was still and seem to want to be carried like that) my arm felt sore after some time.

Of course that just means I have to work on my muscles a lot more(the muscles I once have -- sadly left me or became weak), which I will.

Thanks to her I got a walking partner. Makes me feel a bit more at ease as well. She's perfect, she's not really slow but she takes her time a bit(that's what made me wonder about her age or if she's just naturally like that) but I am happy with my choice.

My only wish is whatever her age is, I hope she has a longer life than say the average chihuahua and a much longer life than say a dachshund and while it may or may not happen. I'll still wish for it.

Well, it seems she was transported from some other shelter in NC which they(the NC shelter) found as a stray.

She came in a few days ago, and right as I "reserved" her people started to inquire about her a lot. So I am lucky on that. It's funny because after we paid the donation fee the lady got a few calls asking about her.

She's currently on some probably crappy diet provided by the store (petsmart) but I am hoping to change her to one of the Wellness brand bags.

We were given a can of wet food which we will use (because we do not waste) but will give her a spoon instead of the can, and serve it in that sort of portion as we all know that liquid stuff = liquid poop

She is BEAUTIFUL. That's me saying that despite the attack of my daughter and dog by a "large" chihuahua mix. I just wanna pet her.

She is just ADORABLE and I'm so happy for you both!!! She looks so gentle and sweet.

On the dandruff, this is likely just due to being under SO much stress for so long now (first a stray, then in a kennel). She just needs time, and good nutrition.

Get a Furminator and remove all the shedding. You may want to add some oil into her diet for extra hydration to her skin. I like "Megga Dog" Camelina Oil from Amazon.

You should keep her on what she was being feed for a week or so, just until she has adjusted to her new home,family, new routine. She is dealing with a lot of new changes now, what you don't want to do is cause her stomach issues. When you do transition her to the new food do it gradually over a period of 7 to 10 days. I like to do a slow transition to avoid upsetting my pups system which can cause diarrhea.

She's a beauty and such an intelligent gaze. Congrats.

Ah yes. Her reputation precedes her. They labeled her as a bit sassy and now I saw why. As I brought my moms dog into the room I had my dog sleeping in when Magnolia comes to me and lays on me, then sasha got near me and she(magnolia) growled and chased sasha around. I had to quickly act. So she has some possessive behavior.

She needs obedience badly.. We will be working on that. She climbs up objects, etc.
