Yorkie pup in the car Hi. My yorkie Kai is 5 1/2 months old and have been with us since he is 13 weeks. We have always take him out in the car when we go out to drop kids off to school, shopping etc. He had been doing fine. We typically put him in the carrier for airplane travels so that he feels safe and not falling down from seats. Last week when we were driving in high way a truck driving next to us had a flat tire and made a loud noise. Kai was sleeping and woke up frightened with the noise. Ever since then he has been shivering when we put him in the car. If more than one person in the car we try to hold and comfort him but when only one person is driving don't know what to do. Any tips to help him get over the fear. Thanks a lot for your help |
I would try putting a tight shirt on him or, buy the Thundershirt itself if you want - that can comfort them a great deal when scared like this. You may also want to try giving 3mg Melatonin (not timed release) for this kind of fear, which is what they give for thunderstorms. Can also try calming sprays and/or Rescue Remedy etc. Also try to distract him from his feelings in the car - bring favorite toys and chews, and play a little - so that he gets used to not feeling fear in the car again. |
