Yorkie Size!
 
My female yorkie is pregnant. She weighed 9lbs before she became pregnant. The sire weighed 9lbs also. Will the pups be 9lbs as well?

Why did you breed? We kill over 2 million in shelters a year. Breeding should really be left to the reputable breeders.

If you're not going to reply with an answer to my question then move along to the next thread. I took all the proper precautions when I bred my girl. I bred her because I wanted to. So if I choose to sell her puppies which I'm not that is my business. Nice try though, Thanks.;)

This is an open forum as long as everyone follows the rules they can post on any threads they want. I don't know what your saying nice try to but if you wanted to breed reputable you would make sure to only breed to the standard. When you say you took all the proper precautions does that mean you went to specials to have knees and stuff checked? Do you know the genes of the dogs pretty far back to make sure health issues don't run in the genes?

It's very dangerous on your female to breed and not have a mentor. Your mentor would teach you stuff like this. This is seriously something you should know before breeding. You can not just put to dogs together. The genes play a big part in determineing the size the puppies will be that's why you need to know the genes before breeding because what if in the males genes they have very large puppies then your female may need a csectionwhich is exspensive, the anesthesia can be rough on the puppies and the mom might not take the puppies. A mentor would have also told you the male should be smaller then the female.

I love your dog's name btw. My oldest yorkie's name is Callie & I work at the shelter so I know first hand how many dogs are being put down. I have to have hypoallergenic dogs. Sorry about the snappiness but I felt you were sort of disrespectful. So many people are left in the dark because experience breeders act like breeding is the worst thing in the world! Everyone has to start somewhere. & yes she has had a proper check up. My aunt breeds yorkies and gifted me her on my birthday 3 years ago. She sired her for me because I wanted another yorkie. She is in great health. My aunt has her grandmother(She is fixed now) The vet reminded me that just because she's a few pounds over standard doesn't mean anything. The standard is basically for shows and breeders who plan to make a profit. I am neither.

There really isn't such a thing as a hypoallergenic dog. All dogs have dander and that is what people are allergic too. Vets are actually not always the best resource for breeding standards. See if we have all these people who don't breed standard dogs then the yorkie will eventually not look like the yorkie anymore. I find it starange if your aunt was a good breeder that she be ok with you breeding off standard and with a male the same weight.

Dogs don't generally just have one puppy so breeding for just another one isn't really a good idea because you might get 6. It also can be very dangerous and risk your girls life. It's also expensive you have to at least have the dew claws removed at 3 days old and then 3 sets of puppy shots and if you keep them all hopefully spaying and neutering.

She is having two. She has had an ultrasound. I'm keeping the male and my aunt is getting the girl. My aunt is removing the dew claws and my vet will be administering the shots. 🙃

Like I said before as long as I follow the rules I can post here. You need to keep in mind other people will read this thread as it will pop up in searches and I want others to know how risky it is and everything. Breeding should never be taken lightly and I am a big fan of rescuing and reputable breeding. Not knowing what your doing puts your dog at risk. Like I said you should have known the answer before breeding.

�� MY AUNT SIRED HER FOR ME!! I am no breeder! This is my first time caring for a pregnant yorkie!(The only part of the process I am partaking in) My aunt is the breeder. Thanks for your response. I have everything I need.

I would let her whelp at your aunts because there are small signs that mean your dog is in distress and you risk missing them if you haven't seen them before.

Didn't think about it like that lol And I just got off the phone with my aunt and her boy was 6 3/4lbs. I thought he was 9. Guess that could've save some confusion.

There is no guarantee on size. My Sunny's mom was 8lbs; his father 4 lbs. The breeder therefore guessed he would be in the 6lb range. He's actually 9lbs (and was the largest in his litter of 6). Other factors can come in to play, like appetite (of which Sunny has an extremely healthy one!)

I thought the same as well but she assured me that because she is so attatched to me that she runs the risk of stressing & not feeding them if I'm not around. She lives 3 houses down though!

Callie was also the biggest of her litter. She was the only one above 5lbs. She is double the size of her father & mother. I'm grateful for her bigger size. I'm hoping my pup isn't smaller than 6lbs. Thank you!!

Good luck with your Callie and her pups. I an glad your grandmother lives so close. know when I first got my Teasell I considered breeding but decided it was not the right thing for me and Teasell who is now almost 8 years old. Please let us know how it all comes out and maybe pictures also. I love puppy pics.

Maybe she will come over when it's time. Don't be scared about being paranoid when she is getting close if something seems off or weird even if your not sure why you need to ask her or a vet. This wasn't don't on her first heat right?
