Is this normal? Hi everyone: I am wondering if it's normal for your dog to cry and scream and fling themselves against their crates when they go to bed at night. Up until recently, Lily slept in bed with us. When she fell out a couple of night ago and we took her to the ER, he said she needs to be in her crate to sleep until she is big enough to jump down from the bed... Well, she is used to sleeping with us....and now, she whines uncontrollably when she is put in her crate to sleep. During the day when we work, she is fine -- but at night, she WAILS... I feel like a creton, so I usually take her out b/c I worry I will wake our neighbors (apt living!)..... Does anyone have suggestions for soothing her? I have her in a wire crate, with a blanket over three sides. I also put the cage right at the height of my bed right next to me so that she will see me, and be able to feel me if she needs to. I am at a lost..... any suggestions would be wonderfully appreciate  |
My husband and I made the mistake of letting Stomper sleep with us when we first got him. We realized it was not a good idea since our bed is very high and if he fell...we thought he could really get hurt. Plus, we didn't want to rollover on him! We started putting him in a crate. He whinned for about 7-10 days - we either told him "No", "Quiet" or just simply ignored him (we would wear ear plugs!). He doesn't do it anymore, so I think he now realized that is his bed. We also put a ticking clock by his crate. That might be worth trying. Only 5 bucks at Target! Good luck. |
Yes its normal... ur baby is used to sleeping with u and now she cant understand why she has to sleep in a crate, i know its hard to ignore her when shes whining but if u want to keep this up, ull have to bite through this sour apple, u could try to put in a Tshirt that U have wore or slept in, that will have ur scent and might put her at ease, also try to wear her out before bedtime so she is really tired and put a soft stuffed animal with her that she can cuddle... i hope this has helped u a little :) |
You could also try a heating blanket, or one of those things with a simulated heartbeat. But like Chelsey says, she doesn't understand why she is being 'punished' to sleeping alone in a crate when she was able to sleep with Mom and Dad before... |
This may sound cruel but try taking the crate to another room...maybe if you are out of sight she will forget that she is not in bed with you......I know it will be hard but maybe worth a try...sorry :( |
