Need help with dental products Would like to get Macy something to help brush and keep her teeth healthy. So many products out there. Any advice?? |
I use the smallest human baby toothbrush they sell at the drug store with the Nylabone dog toothpaste that fights tartar buildup. If you're just starting, you could also try first using a small cloth over your finger to get your puppy used to his mouth/teeth being handled. Do this daily before using the toothbrush. Or...you could jump straight to the toothbrush. Whichever makes your life easier. :) Just make sure you don't use human toothpaste :p |
You might take a look at the VOHC web site. |
Use CET you don't even have to brush if they won't let you because it has enzymes in it that go to work on the teeth. I also by their small size tooth brush. When getting my puppy used to it I let him chew on the old one and now I can brush his teeth just fine. |

Thanks everyone!!! I wil definitely check these out. |
Also check out the VOHC approved Petsmile toothpaste. |
There are also dental water additives that freshen the breath and help soften the tartar in between brushing. We use Arm and Hammer Advanced Care Dental Water Additive from Petsmart. It contains enzymes as well as zinc gluconate. Here is a link: ARM & HAMMER Advanced Pet Care Dog Dental Water Additive | dog Dental Sprays & Rinses | PetSmart |

One of the best products out there is Healthy Mouth, and it's one of the few that's VOHC approved, which is rare. You can add it to their water, to their food, or directly to their mouth. I do the food, each meal. |
SEASTHEDAY "I use Petzlife and have had (knock wood) no dental issues with my two. I have a Biewer and a Yorkie. My Biewer has what is called enamel hyperplasia which means he has little or no enamel on his front teeth and what is there is discolored. He is very orally sensitive, however with persistence he is now a champ. I rub Petzlife on with my finger since getting anything else in their tiny mouths is very hard. The original gel was salmon flavored and they both liked it. This time it seems that they added peppermint into the salmon gel and neither dog is fond of it. In fact my Yorkie hides when she sees me coming for her. Regardless, I have tried CET and oral wipes, and found that the Petzlife is the best. It really works. Even my vet can't believe how beautiful their teeth are. They are both 4-years old." Above is a quote from another posting from Seastheday (didn't know how to copy from another post). After I read this, I purchased Petzlife from Chewy.com and have been very impressed with the results. I also cleared it with my vet, and still brush their teeth with an infant toothbrush. |
We use Petsmile - rub or brush it on her teeth. She will even lick it out of the tube she loves it so much. And, we use HealhtMouth as well. Both are VOHC approved. |
Teeth Hi folks, his is my first response to any blog anywhere. Hope I'm doing this right. I've had yokes all my life and I'm now 57. In regard to teeth, I have two tips. 1. Never give your Yorke wet pet food. I always make up my twos' food with fresh ingredients. They are 11 years old with no loss of teeth as yet. 2. Use a piece of towelling covering your finger dip in bicarbonate of soda and rub gently. |

I use CET toothpaste Vanilla mint on Ruger. He loves it, but doesn't love the Brushing. I try to get the Back teeth real well. After brushing I give him a Milkbone Brushing Chew which is VOCH approved. I hold the chew and not let him have it until it's small. |
