I was a bit older when we had the dogs i grew up with. Our first dog didn't have an accident until the disc in her back broke and she could not walk and sadly we had to put her down that day. Our other dog when he got old he started having seizures and would pee when he had them. Then our other one never had accidents but had to be put down for other health issues. Callie seriously is 100% trained even at other people's houses. Occasionally it would be fine if she has accidents during a hurricane or massive storm but nope she wont and I have tried fake grass and even when we knew a bad one was coming my dad cut up a piece of grass with dirt and everything a put it in the garage and nope didn't work. Most dogs that are potty trained feel ashamed when they go bathroom inside my teach went over this when we went over patient care and said they see to feel ashamed when they go potty in the runs at the vet hospital so love on them and pet them and make them feel better. I remember when Callie had her first surgery on her knee she stayed over night and they called early the next morning and said ok shes doing mostly ok but she will not go to the bathroom for us so maybe you should come get her, so I did and I took her out and she peed forever. Joey is I would say almost 100% his last accident was months ago. I guess because my dogs are potty trained if one of them started going potty in the house I would be fine cleaning it up if it meant longer time with them as long as they were not suffering.

Yeah that's what I was thinking about my passed dogs.

Lulu is 6 months old, he is not 100% potty trained..my mistake was because of very cold winter i let him go to pad..so my boy is pad trained and he will not wee or poo on the street..i think it will take a while untill will learn.. so we can have a long walk but he will not do anything ,,but soon whan we are in the house he need to wee ,,and ofcourse accidents hapens, because sometimes i forget to open first the terrase door and then do other things.. i clean, he knows he was wrong and thats it..i cannot be upset..ok maybe one minute..

Our Bella was pad trained too. I didn't think she would ever potty outside, but one day while we were walking with her in the park, she pooped. Since it was unexpected, I didn't have a bag to pick it up, so I discreetly kicked it under a bush. Now I carry bags with me when we walk her. She is still mostly pad trained, but she will go outdoors too. I'm sure that Lulu will go outside someday--just be sure to carry a bag with you :D.

Max was the same way as a pup -- he thought he could ONLY go on his pad at home! Even peeing. It made going anywhere difficult because we always had to race home. :p

I had the same experience as you getting caught without a bag the day Max surprised me. :D From that day forward, Max preferred to go outside if possible.

I allways have bags with me as i have 2 Cavachons.all of my handbags have at least few..i afraid i will not have sone treats in change..with lulu just praise not enough:))
I m in switzerland right now, and what is nice here they have everywhere poo bags..from 100 to 100 meters.. also you are alowed with dogs in public transports.. back to spain..no poo bags , no public transports.:))

Personally I would never put down one of my Pets unless they are in pain. By then I would've explored everything to make sure that there is absolutely no chance of them recovering. I have four cats and two Yorkies. One cat and one yorkie have heart disease, they are both old, my other yorkie has never been fully House-trained not through my fault (husband the culprit!) and I spend a lot of my day cleaning up pee. I try to make the job as easy as possible by using nappies etc. sometimes and it takes me ages to set out everyone's food at meal times. When I lose a pet I always feel some guilt trying to blame myself for something which I didn't cause, so definitely wouldn't put this poor yorkie down, I wouldn't be able to handle the guilt.

You came here for validation that you're not a "bad dog/animal owner"... It seems you already made up your mind before you even posted here. So asking us as if it's okay or not when you already demonstrated you're likelier to do it- is essentially "Baiting" us.

So effectively you're being a tad provocative- you just may or may not realize it. But then again, you probably realized you were being provocative from saying "no bashing or attacking"


People here have no hidden agendas, you and a lot of people may not realize but we're not like the PETA- we are a group of simple owners, some of us may be more experienced than others, some of us may be breeders(not sure), but all of us come here to learn. I would assume the problem with your comments is that you make no indication that you want to learn - more like you just want some pity, validation and someone to tell you that you are not a "bad owner".

I do not 100% blame you on your emotions, I mean yes you caused this upon yourself by never training it properly and being persistent with it. The average "joe" knows very little about proper dog keeping and tends to just wing it. Which is how a lot of dogs end up in the pound.

But now, instead of killing it you should find an alternative. I mean you do owe it to your dog because it was your responsibility to begin with and basic dog training 101 is essentially been made available to all dog owners-- in fact even non-dog owners probably know to potty train dogs... As it will save you a lot of grief later on.

The dog should only ever be put down if it's quality of life is compromised. I.e. the dog can't move, the dog is in constant pain, eating becomes a pain for the dog, the moment your dog is like that is when you can consider euthanasia to bring relief to the dog(ending it's suffering).

From the sounds of it, the dog isn't as fit as a fiddle but is in no way in any pain, can move freely, and has no trouble eating just goes everywhere. An easy fix, buy it some dog diapers and move on with it. Change the diapers as needed. Clean house, happy owner, happy dog.

I just want to make a totally unrelated comment which may or may not benefit you later on:
Vets, aren't always right, and just like doctors there are good vets, and there are bad vets- a degree is only a paper stating you passed several exams... it does not however imply that the vet even cares enough to check. It is our job as the owner to make sure that the vet isn't just out for a buck.

Again, not even making a comment about your vet, this is just a totally unrelated comment that I feel is pretty appropriate for people to know- because well you know "knowledge is power".



For the record, when I say euthanasia should be considered if the dog can't move, eat, or is in pain I don't mean if the dog is missing a limb, or needs help from a dog "wheelchair"...

What I mean by not being able to move I really just mean that if getting up, moving around, or even just going to the bathroom seems to bring the dog pain then yeah- that is when you consider it.

Never before or after.

A dog is a living being just like you, I, and the rest of us. You wouldn't put your loved one down just because it did something you didn't like(and didn't know otherwise)- then why would you do that to your dog?

Just some food for thought.


There are many solutions to a problem; it is only when you give up that there are no solutions.


If there is ever a next time you have a dog or an animal in general please make sure that you will be able and willing to care for it through THICK and thin- and if it's a dog to at least potty train it.

In response to what your vet he couldn't be further from the truth- yes yorkies in particularly can be a pain to train but no more than your average dog.

Small dogs are harder to train because people tend to give in to them.

See if a big dog made a mess it would be annoying; but if a small dog made a mess to a lot of people it would just be adorable(for some time)-- thus creating "small dog syndrome"- which any dog could have.

Size in this case does not matter; it is only the owner/trainers will that matters.

Also hard doesn't = impossible. Our dog would do a lot of bad things as a puppy like biting furniture, peeing on carpets, getting on the sofa, "butt riding" all over the floor-- all of them were fixed with time.



Just be patient, I mean of course it's probably too late now that she's mostly deaf, and the cateracts doesn't help but she will only be alive for a few more years so why take those last few years away from her?

I wish I could help you with your precious yorkie. What about a little doggie diaper. Please don't put her down. She has a lot of love to give. There are people who would take her. My friend does doggy hospice. Gives them a nice loving home when old. I hope you can work sonething out to keep her happy in old age.

Well my little Keally had IBD all her life and separation anxiety also. She was potty trained on pee pads but she sure tore up everything. She scratched our bedroom door when it accidentally got shut. She sometimes would poop on things I cherished. She pawed my new mahogany bedroom set and made deep scratches. Those scratches are my memories of my dear Keally. If anyone else had her they probably would of put her down but she was lucky to have my husband and me.Lots of damages but we loved her and we knew she loved us. We tried everything to help her and realized her separation anxiety could not be cured. We did not know too much about yorkies and she was sold to us at six or seven weeks old. Anyways it is too bad you feel that way about your fur kid. I would give anything to have Keally back even with her problems. Why don't you give your dog to a yorkie rescue where she can be loved. Accusing the OP of "baiting" or being "provocative" is not helpful at all to the OP. The OP came to the group for moral support in making a difficult decision. Sadly they did not find it, and I doubt that they are around any more to read this thread. It's okay to disagree, but to make assumptions and accusations about the OP's motives is not helpful at all.
