Why We Rescue..................... Hard to watch but hang in there for great ending pic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk2j30TPdeE Can't help but touch your heart. |

So sad to see what people can do to a poor dog that will worship you for ever. What a happy ending for this lil pooch. |
Having been around labs and dobermins my entire life, I can't watch that. Just please know that people like yourself and Matese, and a great many other ladies on here are amazing. You guys and gals are nothing short of heroes, truly. |

I loved doing any and all forms of rescue work, from taking them from the city streets or scouring city shelters for the next-to-be euthanized straight to urgent vetting, nursing, rehabilitation and then helping a dog overcome its anger or trust/fear issues or just how to behave more acceptably in our world so his life could be better. Bringing those babies into my home and working to help them back to a good world they could heal and trust again was my greatest reward, right after that of my family. Sadly, I've had to retire from my various official rescue work, now carried on by my son in another state who works constantly to rescue, transport, nurse, foster and help dogs in trouble and is a true dog whisperer for dogs with behavior problems. But I believe that anyone who takes in an unwanted, abused, stray, ill/injured or behaviorally challenged dog and vets, homes, fosters, nurtures and works to help it in every way while either taking it in as a personal pet or attempting to find a truly suitable home for that baby qualifies as a bona fide dog rescuer. Too many people just throw their dogs away, often after damaging them in unthinkable ways, totally uncaring of what will happen to that baby that loved, trusted and utterly depended on them. We see them by the dozens of thousands every year, running the streets or caught and caged away from our eyes! Those that work to help even one of those dogs in any way is a hero! When suddenly a poor dog is cast out of his home and left on the streets all alone, he's left to wonder what in the world happened to his world and where his beloved 'pack' is, where his special person went and why he is left to fend for himself with no one to care or even make sure he has a bit of food, any water or shelter from the weather with a clean bed. I can only imagine how scared, lonely and profoundly insecure they are! One day a home - next day lonely, cold and hungry with no place to even curl up and sleep for the night. And anyone who tries to help a dog like that or one from a shelter or rescue situation is a true hero to me and deserves the official title of 'human angel' in my book. And if we can't personally rescue now for whatever reason, we can support those who do! :animal-pa |
Kay; I'll watch it tonight when I have a quiet house. I watched a video that was made overseas recently, and it showed the dog as a human girl, and man, I was bawling. It hurt, but more people need to realize this. |

I cried, but, thank you for sharing. People who do this to animals... I just can't understand it. Lowest scum of the earth. |
Man is NOT the superior species. |

Just anything anyone can do, from volunteering, fostering or even to donating money or even things for rescue, can do so much to help care for and bring these damaged and/or homeless little ones back to a good place in life. It's the least we can do for the ever loyal friend who is always there with us, from the beginning to the end of our day, through thick and thin, wonderful, blessed times and tragic, devastating ones, always with a loving look, endless kisses, wagging tail and caressing, warm, furry presence, just for us, right there at our feet. |
Bumping for those who feel the urge to start looking for another dog this week!!! :):):) Your local shelter or Yorkie rescue might just have another best buddy who needs a home - with YOU! |
1 Attachment(s) Adding a picture got off Twitter. |
Just saw full-size picture. Is the attendant holding a syringe???????? |

Ohhh. Truthfully, I didn't even notice the attendant in the thumbnail on Twitter until I'd loaded it on YT and clicked on enlargement. Bitter, but all too representative of the whole pet-shop-to-pound-to-death trip for far too many of our four-footed 'friends'. I swear, when I think of how many of them we willy-nilly breed and kill every year in this country and how many others suffer from our ignorance, abuse or gross neglect, I so wish we had to be licensed to own a dog! And petshops, why in the world can't we pass a bill preventing them from selling dogs? |
Bumping. Thousands upon thousands of great dogs in animal shelters and rescues still need a home. In most cases, you will be saving the dog's life as most are waiting for their date with death when they aren't placed in homes after their 'shelf life' has passed. Save a forgotten, hopeless life today if you can! If you can't rescue/foster, donate to a responsible shelter and help the dogs trying to hang on to life a while longer there. In the meantime, their forever soulmate might just walk in. Please help the hopeless spending what's left of their lives on cold concrete floors to hold on a little longer. |
Jeanie, thank you for the great post! When we got our two little Morkies they were a lot like the dog in that video. They were terrified of humans and were scared to death to be touched or held. They literally trembled and drooled in the car all the way home from picking them up. They stood still and were afraid to walk around in the yard. They didn't bark for two weeks, we didn't think they knew how to bark. Toby would startle so badly he would jump if you touched him for the first few months. The progress is going very slow but each tiny advancement is HUGE to us. I guess that is why these babies were passed over by so many adopters. They had been shuffled around to three different foster homes and had been to two or more adoption events at Petco. I can only imagine how traumatic that was for them with all the noise and people handling them. After a year they are still trying to be comfortable riding in a car because I guess a car ride meant a new traumatic experience for them. Sometimes I feel sad and long for a puppy that would come running to me and wag their tails to be held and petted when I called them. I feel a little sad when I see normal dogs trotting along beside their humans enjoying a walk on a leash. We are trying to get there but it takes a long time. I don't regret for a minute getting these little babies but sometimes I just wish it was easier. They will walk on a leash now but eyes are huge, ears back and tails down. They are afraid of every sound, a twig snapping underfoot, etc. We don't know what the first 7 or 8 months of their lives were like that made them so afraid of humans. We were told that they were neglected and didn't have human contact. We don't know how much they were abused other than that. I'm just glad the rescue kept them together because they depend on each other so much for comfort. I love them so much and just want the best for them. I would love to hear about anyone's adoption story that had a happy ending. Maybe it will give me some encouragement. Thanks! |

Ah, I found it. Now if I can recall how to embed a video and post the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iapVrzmx6yk Utterly heartbreaking! |
That is so heartbreaking that a dog is that afraid of people. They are man's best friend and look how man treats them. |
Many Pitbulls make great, loving pets. Some Pitbulls can do great damage and heartbreak when they are bred for vicious dog fighting and those overly aggressive, killer genes get into a bloodline that sometimes gets into the public sphere, who may endlessly breed those vicious genes. Cruel upbringing, sensing it is hated and feared by many and irresponsible owners can finish the job and produce total monsters but at heart, a dog very likely on its way to the deathhouse at least had a few moments of caring for her as just a very, very sad, needy dog. Mankind has not been a great friend to this bully 'breed 'and I can understand why the loathing but understanding why they are so reviled doesn't make one baby alone and dying for love any less in need of a kind, human touch nor break my heart any less. |
I just can''t watch one more animal abuse video - it rips my insides out. People who abuse children, old people and animals are just evil. There is NO excuse. |
