My Yorkie is pregnant
 
Hello everyone I am fairly new at being a Yorkie mom, especially just having a female dog. I've always had males an now I remember why. My Yorkie is pregnant an I am wondering what to to feed her. Does anyone have any ideas what type of food I need to c her eat.

It sounds like you're a bit surprised that your dog is pregnant, yes? How big is she? How pregnant is she? Is the father a Yorkie? I cannot give you specifics (other members can provide excellent info), but I do know precise and careful prenatal care is essential to the health of mom and pups. I guess I'm a bit surprised you didn't research prior to breeding your girl...Hoping all goes well for everyone!

Yes you do sound surprised that your female is pregnant. If this is your first female I guess you don't know SPAYED females NEVER get pregnant.

Yorkie pregnancy is dangerous to the health of the dog under the best of circumstances, and if you did not plan everything out ahead of time and choose the mother and father very carefully after performing genetic screens for health issues, etc., etc., then you should take your dog to the vet for an emergency spay as soon as possible. This is especially true if the father is not another Yorkie--the size of the puppies could kill the mother during childbirth. We're not being judgmental here--we're concerned for the health and safety of the mother and the unborn puppies. Based on what you've told us, this was an unplanned pregnancy and you're not sure about prenatal care of the mother, so if this is the case, absolutely get an emergency spay.

I also second what pstinard said.

Whether you have a male or female pet dog, the right thing to do is to neuter/spay them before 1 year old. It's the best way to prevent your pup or someone else's pup from becoming pregnant.

Hopefully you understand the serious health implications and will take her to the vet for an emergency spay.
