How do you nicely fire your dog sitter We are in Hawaii for 10 more days...I have a nanny cam that I can check on the dogs. I have yet to see the sitter at the house today! I had to tell her they were out of water...then they needed to go potty. She was perfect...nieces friend that's going to college part time. Worked only 6 hrs a week. I told her she could leave for short periods to run to the store or run home for a bit but I hired her because she was living there. Should I be rude and tell her since you didn't do your job and I'm paying you $70 day to be there I'm sending them to a kennel. There they will have someone there taking care of them. I'm so mad every time I check on them. Or call her to see why she's not there. Yes I told her I had the nanny cam so she didn't think I was spying on her..and when she's there she covers it up 😒 |
She covers the camera when she's there...??? Did she ask if that was okay first, did she okay that with you...? If not, um, weird right there. I'd pretty upset paying someone that much and not having them there. I suppose it should've been more clear as to exactly how many hours you expected her to be there at that rate. You could do a kennel...but also think about doing Rover.com and finding someone close to you. I'm a Rover sitter, and their sitters are really great. As for talking to her...remember...your dogs are in *her* care right now, so be careful. I'd say something like "I'm worried I put too much on you right now...that the timing is wrong and I caught you during a busy time. I'm afraid my dogs need more time with someone - so I wanted to let you know I found a (kennel, Rover sitter, neighbor, whatevs...). But thanks for what you've done so far." .....(and thanks for NOTHING, now get OUT of my HOUSE   ..!!!). So sorry you're dealing with this...how awful from so far away! |
It's 5:00am there and still no sitter and a blizzard is due at 7 so if she doesn't get there she might not be able too until Monday morning! She said she was staying there all the time...only went to school for a hour 3 times a week plus worked at a doggy daycare for 6 hours on Thursday. What upsetting is she said she was staying at the house all the time but would have to leave the dogs just those times. she's my nieces friend and her dad is my sisters coworker. Boy don't let family recommend sitters. I'm going to see if my mom will take Max since she doesn't drive so never leaves the house. Then kennel the other two. Max hurt his leg so can't handle doggy daycare running around much. Hopefully they have room for the girls and I can find someone to take them in a blizzard. If I had a tranquilizer I'd be taking a few right now. 😰 |
Yeah, I agree with Wylie's Mom, going about it I'd definitely just say to her it's not working out, after she's not having them in her care, and then explain to her why. Like everything that bothered you, in a very neutral tone. This girl may be in doggy daycare services, but she seriously needs to work on her work ethics. Thank goodness, though, that you are taking steps to remove her from your service. Anyone of my family, friends and coworkers, knows how I am about my furbaby and knows I'll go off on them if they don't do right by her. Granted, I'll try to be nice about it first, depending on how bad the situation is, but if it's ignored or the situation was bad enough at first, then it's on. Hope you can find your furbabies the sitter they need/deserve. |
"Honey, you're fired." |
I wouldn't say anything that could anger her and maybe make her take it out on the dogs but I'd make any kind of arrangements I could to get my dogs proper care and my keys out of her hands! Poor you, I'm so sorry you're trying to vacay or work in Hawaii, all the while having to deal with home-alone dogs and a sitter like HER, storm coming! The temerity of her noshows while your dogs go unchaperoned & covering up your nannycam! Makes you wonder what the nannycam is missing. That says all you need to know about her. End it ASAP. |
Sorry to hear about this stress. I hope you can get it resolved soon! She is definitely not doing a good job at all. |
Is there anyone you can call that you trust to go to your house and get the keys from this sitter? Not showing up, covering the cam, - you need to get this person away from your babies NOW. |

Just wondering how it is going with your pups? |
I had an issue a year ago very similar. My sitter knew there was a camera on the dogs when I worked. When I looked at the camera around the time she usually came she was not there. She would also text me when she came. Well that day she did not text me. I called her and asked her if she was there and she said she came but the dogs did not poop or pee on their walk. I asked her why I could not see her or any movement on the camera and the time stamp she said she arrived the dogs were still in the kitchen. Her reaction was "Do you want me to dance in front of the camera so you can see me" I told her I will leave your pay for you the next day. Please leave my key before you leave and I will no longer need your services. What I learned from my experience is to always go with a reputable company. I know have the best dog sitter in the world. I even refuse to move apartments because I do not want to lose her. She knows I have cameras and has no issue. |

Omigosh. I just want to say I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I think if it were me, I'd be looking at flights asap to go back home. That...or I'd be asking my family/close friends to go over to get my dogs and take the keys back. But, Ann's advice was very good too. It'd be very hard to keep a clear head in this situation. How enraging! |

But most of my clients who have cameras let me know. There is one who has cameras in the bathroom where she keeps the dogs during the day so of course she tells me to unplug it when I use the toilet and then plug it back in after LOL... But this chick just sounds like she is blatantly not doing her job!! I can't imagine expecting to be paid and then barely doing my job - jeez!! How terrible for you to have to worry that your babies are not in the best hands. I hope you got something figured out and will update us. |
