What do you feed your Yorkie? Meals and Treats Hello: I just adopted my 15 month Yorkie girl. She has been on a raw food diet which seems to be good for her. It's quite expensive though. I am wondering what other people feed their Yorkies? I am also looking at ideas of what you give your baby for treats? I keep hearing about this thing called KONG. Anyone know what that is and if it's healthy? Thanks in advance! |
Food: Wellness Core Grain Free Small Breed (Bella appreciates the small kibble size since she had a few teeth removed). Royal Canin for Yorkshire Terrier is also good. Treats: Thawed frozen peas, small pieces of peeled apple, cherry tomatoes cut in half (if you don't precut them, they can make a mess), small pieces of lean ham. For store-bought treats, Bella likes Pet Botanics mini training rewards. I think a Kong is a device that you put treats in and the Yorkie plays with it to get the treat out (see https://www.kongcompany.com/). |

Dry food: Acana (usually Singles line -- duck and wild mackarel one primarily, but we sometimes rotate with other flavors) Wet food: Weruva (spoonful mixed in with dinner)... again we rotate flavors of Weruva. Sometimes we get other canned foods too if we find deals. Treats: it varies. His fav are Bare Bites, Pupperoni (which I know, is "bad", but he would do anything for it), Zuke's, Pet Botantics, etc... |
Mainly, I feed pre-made raw by Better In The Raw or Primal or Natures Variety. If I need kibble, then it's Natures Logic Venison or Solid Gold Wee Bits. |
I feed Emma Nutri Source Grain Free (Chicken and Pea formula). She gets a variety of treats (Cloud Star Buddy Biscuits, Zukes Rabbit bites, Training Treats)- The training treats are daily with a few pieces given when we she has to go in her crate or potty's in the right area. |
Dog I need help choosing a food. I like some foods but the protein level is too high. I fed wellness turkey and oatmeal. They have had loose stool. Off wellness. Then nutrisource turkey and sweet potato. Back to loose stool. We are back on chicken and rice. I think it's the turkey so im looking to change that. My yorkes are 9 lbs. Please help me with food ideas. |

Dog I agree about blue buffalo food. I used that food and my yorkies had loose stools. I have read Other complaints about the inconsistency of this food. I will not use this food. We need to make sure the protein levels are not too high for our little dogs. Still looking for a dog food when my yokes get a firm stool |

Sandy, if you're looking to isolate proteins and figure out what's causing the loose stools, you can consider Acana Single Proteins. Basically you can get kibble that's just Pork, just Lamb, or just Chicken. Through this, I discovered which proteins gave Scottie the most eye gunk. It was helpful. But of course you need to do the slow transition, so that it's not the change in kibble that's causing the loose stools. |
Mine have been on Acana, Orijen, and Fromm, all grain-free. They've done well on Acana and Orjien, but I switched to Fromm because they're smaller sized kibble. |

Dog Both yorkies are eating chicken and rice only. I starting to see stools forming. I really think it's the turkey base food. So don't get a chicken base food. I did another stool sample and it came back negative . It has to be the food. Very frustrating. I want to check into protein levels because the vet said 38% is too high.
