I've been a member of YorkieTalk.com for a little bit now, just lurking around. I had a Yorkie who passed away in June of 2016 to heart failure. Such a surprise. We were so heartsick, she was only 9 years old. Since we still had an elderly Chihuahua, we decided to wait until she passed before we adopted another Yorkie. (Our minds were already made up on the breed.) My Chihuahua passed the first week of January and I started to peek at ads for Yorkie puppies. All be darn, if I didn't find one two weeks later. Actually, the way it worked out, I was rescuing her since the couple couldn't keep her. The owner gave me her sister as part of the deal. Here I am, with two female Yorkie puppies who turned out to be 6 weeks old. I have had them for three weeks now, and they are just a couple of fireballs. They reminded me of my grown twin sons when they were little, so we named the girls Nikki and Stevie. :aimeeyork:aimeeyork They are such a blessing!!!

Welcome to YT, and congrats on your new furbutts, 6 week old puppies not wanted!!!! Well you lucked out. Yep, two lil yorkies can be a hand full but soooo much fun. So happy for you that you came upon these two lil sweeties and took them both. Cute names for them. Please keep us updated on their new life with you.

Thank you everyone! We did luck out. These two girls are such a joy. They have been using the peewee pads with great success! I just can't figure out how to get them to use the lawn outside too. Pictures will come as I learn my way around this forum.

All my puppies were first trained on pads, at 5 months old they were 100% pad trained with NO accidents. Then the house breaking started. The key word is consistency. Put them on a food schedule, feed them at the same time every morning and evening if you feed in the afternoon also must me the same time. I had to leash walk mine, I had no yard. Timing will be a hit and miss, after they eat wait 30 minutes then take them outside to potty, this is NOT a play period, it is POTTY period. Even if they have made on the pad before the 30 minutes take them out anyway. Consistency and patience are KEY factors in house breaking. Even if you take them to the yard put harness and leash on them and walk them to avoid their playing. I always used the words pee-pee and poo-poo so they knew what they were outside to do. By 7 months old all my puppies were 100% house broken with no accidents inside. Dogs are creatures of habit, once you start something they don't forget it, they have little alarm clocks built in them lol, they will know when it is time they go out, but, feeding and walking must be on a schedule. This is what worked for me and ALL my puppies.

That's great they're having success with the potty pads! :) If they're only 6-7 weeks old, don't worry about them using the lawn outside for now. It's probably better to keep them inside until they're older and their immune system develops a little bit (and also that they've received all their shots first).

Congrats on getting your two puppies. Many many good times ahead!! :D
