How long do you leave your Yorkie at home per day Hello: I am in the process of adopting a Yorkie girl and am wondering what the longest time she can be left alone each weekday. Both my husband and I still work and cannot bring her to work with us (unfortunately). Are there any owners who leave your baby at home during the day? The current owner states that she has been left for a four hour period multiple times and does well. We would need to leave her home longer than that time frame. I just want to do what's best for our yorkie girl. Thank you in advance for your answers. |
I can leave my yorkie all day if needed. But I decided to have a dog walker come in and spend time with him as he loves the company. :) As long as pee pads and fresh water is left out I don't see the issue. I will warn you when I was trying to adopt Thumper and Boomer I was turned away from a lot of rescue groups because I work full time and they felt leaving a dog alone for 8 hours a day is cruel. I would not mention that you plan on leaving the dog for long periods of time. As I am trying to adopt another one again I put down on the application 4-6 hours per day and specifically indicate someone will come in for an hour each day to spend time with him. |
I work Monday-Friday. I leave my girls in an x-pen 3-4 days a week for about 7 hours. I try to go home at lunch as much as possible. I felt guilty leaving them everyday (especially because they have to be in the pen) so I started bringing them to doggie daycare 1-2 days a week which gets them pretty pooped. I still feel guilty leaving them when I go to work, but with walks and lots of playtime when I'm home, they're doing just fine. Hope you get the new little girl!!! |
All my puppies were 100 % house broken at 7 months old with no accidents. I worked full time, they were alone 8 1/2 hours before being waked again . |
Single yorkie mom here! Someone's gotta work to pay the bills. I leave the house at 7 am and am home 7:30 pm at the latest. Sometimes I can be home by 5:45 pm, can clean up after Kaji, make dinner for the family, and then I step out for a run (about an hour). Kaji is piddle trained, and even if I hit the gym (the reason I get home at 7:30 pm) someone is home by 6 to feed him at his usual dinner time. It sucks, but hey... until I win the lottery, this is how it's going to have to be. I do try to take Kaji absolutely everywhere when I'm not working. |
8 hours is usually my max. But he's been okay before for 10 if need be. He is totally outdoor trained so I really don't like to make him wait longer than 6 hours but sometimes life happens and he's okay. I basically spend all of my other free time with him so I don't feel too guilty. |
Thank you all for your answers. I'm feeling much better about adopting her now. |
Let me add a foot note. All my now passed puppies were not wee lil babies my smallest lass was 9 pounds, 2 were 13 pounds and one was 17 pounds. Smaller babies under 7 pounds have smaller bladders and may not be able to hold in urine. If pups are pad trained I see no reason why being alone for 7 or 8 hours with working family is a issue. |
