Any one do Titers? I HOPE that's spelled correctly. Chewie had her rabies- and only rabies- this time on saturday. I opted to give her benadryl before. I know she didn't have a reaction last time, I'm just cautious. I was told about Titers from our vet; and want to explore it when she gets older. I don't know much about it, if any one on her recommends it or not, if it's worth the price. I am particularly wanting it for rabies. She has a lump and wouldn't let me touch it this morning. I know from last year this is normal. It's a very small lump, not big. Vet gave me every medical fact I asked for, but I'm speaking as far as you guys on the board. She's also now on Apoquel for her itching and sneezing, etc. Going through allergy testing in two weeks. We've opted to start the apoquel on Wednesday to give her little system a few days to process the shot. |
You can't do titers for rabies - rabies is given by law - either every year in some states, or every 3 yrs like here in AZ. For distemper/parvo, I do not in any way feel titers are worth the $ - remember, they don't really tell you anything since they only can indicate humoral immunity ONLY -- they tell you absolutely nothing about cellular immunity. Also remember this: you can have a negative titer, but actually *have* cellular immunity and be able to fight the disease; you can also have a positive titer, but have NO cellular immunity whatsoever. Sooooo...see why they're not worth it now ;)...?!!! |

You may want to consider not getting the combination injections. I only do one vaccine at a time because my dog is very small. |
We sent off for titre's on Finnigan because he has such terrible reactions to the Rabies vaccines. We had tried spacing out the vaccine only give Rabies, then tried pre-treating, but he kept having reactions. So, we drew titre's instead. Granted it doesn't really tell you much, but at least I had the sheet of paper stating he indeed had active immunity if the city/county/state questioned him no longer receiving the vaccinations. It was costly, and had to be shipped out. Its not recommended, but I just wanted to have something in case we were ever questioned. |
