If you have carpet... If you have carpet and your yorkies like to have accidents have you resulted to "banning" them from the carpeted areas of the home? I'm trying to make a decision on how I can save my carpet. I don't want to always crate her but I think I will have to start over with the potty training again from scratch. Since I'm home I think its doable but in the interim, Emma might have to be secluded to the downstairs. |
I ripped out my wall to wall broadloom cause of all the pups in here over the past eleven years. I have area rugs I bring out for holidays then they are stored away. I also have small area rugs which are washable in my bedroom. The underpaid really retains the urine scent. So you can clean like a maniac the rug and still your dog can smell the urine. If I wanted to keep a carpeted area, I would not hesitate in gating off or other ways of limiting access. |
I have laminate flooring but several floor mats (small rugs) here and there. I've had to clean them occasionally when there was an accident during their potty training. In the beginning I had to take away all the mats. Luckily Casie who uses indoor potty pads eventually learned that my mats are no-no's, so I'm able to put a few back out. Now, instead I see her running over to the pee pads. Yay! :D I still always tell her "good girl!!" when I see she peed on the pad. I'd definitely would isolate them from the carpeted areas during potty (and re-potty) training! |
