Why Does My Little Boy Do This
 

I am the proud mom of a 16 week old (this Sunday) little boy named Beau. Beau is extremely energetic, loves attention at all times. I know he loves me as he is always following me around, watching my every move, he sleeps with me, I am his main caregiver.

My problem is this. I don't know if it's because he's a puppy or what makes him do this. Anyway, when I get home from work, he is all over me, we have love time for about 15 minutes, then I make his dinner, he eats, then we spend about an hour playing with his toys, me throwing his stuffed animals, him running to get them and bringing them back for me to throw again, he chews on his nylabones, his greenies (when he does this, he brings them right next to me and lays down to chew on them for a few minutes).

As the evening progresses, he becomes less and less interested in me, sometimes wandering off into the kitchen and just laying on the kitchen mat in front of the sink, so I go to check on him and he seems disinterested, or like he's bored or pouting or something. So when I go to pick him up, he darts away from me and will not let me catch him. So many times I just want to pick him up and give him kisses and love and hold him, but he will have nothing to do with that. Every time I reach for him and say come here baby, he runs, then when I get close to picking him up again, he runs, but if I get frustrated and go sit back in the living room, then he comes in there wanting to get up on the sofa with me, then when I reach down to pick him up, he jumps back.

Why does he do that? Is he playing? Is he just being a puppy? Do I bore him? Is he pouting?

Sounds like my puppy. He is probably just tired from all the running around, playing and chewing.

It's the part where he jumps or backs away from me when I reach for him that bothers me. It's like he's scared of me or he is thinking if she picks me up she is going to take me somewhere I don't want to go, really weird. In the mornings, he lets me carry him around, when I get home from work he lets me carry him for a while until he wants to get down, it's just the evening after a few hours that he backs away or jumps away as if scared or like no no no, I don't think so.

He's playing chase. He misses you and give you love. When he's done he goes off on his own. When you come to get him, hee hee see if she's fast enough!!
Mine do that too. They will be 15 weeks on Sunday.

Mine just started doing this last week. I was going to post something about it, but figured it was just a stage he's going through. Maybe it's part of developing independence and not wanting to be held so much?

Stomper does the same thing - I guess it is normal. He is 15 weeks old. To be optomistic, it is probably good that they want their "own" time, that shows that they are independent! Which is good for a little dog. :)

Well tonight when he starts jumping away from me when I go to pick him up, I'm going to make a game of it, like chase, instead of taking it to heart.

Thanks guys, guess all of us with babies at this age have a lot of learning to do and it's comforting to know that my 15 week old is just like the other babies his age.

omgosh hershey does the same thing. when i first come back home he's ALLL over me jumping up and down. hugging kissing and all that. and after awhiel he js goes away doing his own things. and later when i find him and i say come here , he doens't even listen to me anymore. so i go "come!" in that serious voice and he starts barking at me like he wants to fight. :T

and the cycle continues..

If it's 7 dog years to every human year, this would make them in their terrible two's or thereabouts, which explains the not listening and being defiant. Glad to know I'm not alone.

Yup. Higgins did that at that age. Terrible Twos. He still does it once in awhile just to test us. Typical Yorkie behavior!

Esme does the same exact thing. Sometimes she lets me carry her and other times she darts out of my reach and then comes close and backs up again when I go to grab her. I definetly think this is their little game. I wouldn't take it personally! I agree with the above poster about your puppy being in the terrible twos! I know my Esme is at that stage right now!

Lol yeah it's nothing to worry about, my 15 week old pup doed the exact same thing. It's just a game to them.

Tia is doing the same thing!! She thinks it's so funny to watch me bend to pick her up, then shoot off down the hall. She's a FAST runner too :0

Yeah, it's definitely a Yorkie game. Schatzie does this once in awhile also. I try to not play in her game because at times I need to her to come and she starts in with her game....So, i ignore her then she realizes she isn't getting any attention so comes up to me and I can pick her up.

Stubborn little thing she can be! :D
