My Yorkie has scabs growing on her back
 

I've inherited my son's yorkie. Which is fine with me, i love her to death. Within the last month, she started getting scabs on her back. They don't seem to bother her, but i have no idea why this is happening. I thought they would dry up and fall off but so far... no. Calling the vet next week. Anyone have any idea why this would be happening or have you had any experience with this and your dog.

It could be caused from allergies. Is she itchy?

Thank you for responding. No, she doesn't seem to be itchy. Very big, very dry scabs. She had this once before when she was little. They just went away, so I've been kinda waiting to see what they do. We figured maybe allergies, maybe something she ate. Not sure. Will call the vet next week but wanted to see what it would do on its own. Or if anyone has experience this with their yorkie.

Allergies can cause skin to be dry, itchy and/or red. Sometimes, the itchiness is so intense that the dog relentlessly chews away at certain spots until there are bare spots.

Usually it would be accompanied by other symptoms including:

It can happen in the blink of an eye… They can hop from another dog to your Yorkie…up to 6 feet!

thank you for responding. I'm wondering if it could be allergens. She has enough problems already, blind and kidney disease. Even with those issues, is a happy little girl and has adjusted well to the blindness. I just hate to have these scabs on her and found another article saying these were fairly common. I'll call the vet next week. Maybe some medicated shampoo and some ointment of some kind will help her. thank you again.

I've heard many people recommend oatmeal shampoo for skin problems. I've never used it but have seen a lot of people talk about it here.
