New Food Recommendation Please!!! I am the mommy of a soon-to-be one year old baby girl (next Friday!!!) and she is a diva! She came to us with massive parasite problems and it took the vet weeks to diagnose the problem. She was underweight with no appetite and dropping glucose problems. I'm happy to say she is now healthy, happy, and a whopping 12 lbs of lean feist! We put her on Stella & Chewy's raw food diet after she refused to eat during the diagnosis period, and she loved it. At this point, months later, she is always itchy (no fleas) so the vet recommended only the duck variety until we figure out if food allergies are the problem. I am investing over $120 monthly on this food and it's becoming difficult to financially keep up with this raw food diet. I don't want to put her on grocery store kibble because my baby deserves better, but I need some alternative food suggestions. Please keep in mind her pickiness (she will starve herself if my sons leave for the weekend for a Boy Scout campout - she misses them terribly and uses anorexia as a weapon) and her itchiness. Help!!! :) |
I would either feed Better In The Raw and just add your own raw meat. Or, try Natures Logic Venison kibble. |
I like Acana. It's what has worked best for Jackson even if I was unhappy with some changes to ingredients and such. But throughout the past seven years we have primarily fed that with fantastic results. They also make Orijen which is known to be a bit richer. I feed Weurva canned food mixed in or sometimes cheaper stuff since it's just a little bit being mixed in (like Purina Beyond, etc). I like the Acana because it's more middle-ground. Also the nutrient levels are in check in most of the formulas. I really like Nature's Logic but their ash % and calcium levels are extremely high. That worries me long term. Also, I quite like Petcurean Go! and Now foods. |
You can get Royal Canin hypoallergenic small breed it's prescription food but great for babies with allergies. |
Emma has been on Nutri Source Grain Free (Chicken and Pea) Kibble since I brought her home actually. She's done well on it. Great coat, she eats it, firm, regular stools (2x a day). A 5lb bag will last us ~2 months and its about ~$15/bag. I think its a quality food. |
Duck food Canidae brand has a food with duck Also merrick brand has duck and sweet potatoe.my 3 are very picky eats and they like these brands. They are both grain free |
Chester does good on acana |
Hi, I had the exact problem with our Tootie. Finally we found Primal Nuggets. Primal Nuggets are freeze dried and a complete, balanced diet. They come in all different flavors. Beef, Chicken, Lamb, Venison, Pork, Turkey/Sardine& Duck. We started Tootie on the Lamb, she loved it and the scratching slowed to a crawl. Now, we have a bag of each flavor (spoiled girl gets bored unless we feed her different nuggets every other day or so). LOL. Butters is still on Royal Canin, puppy, Yorkie, but will eat the PN when he's full grown. Best of luck with your baby. |
Hi all, I had this exact problem with Tootie. We tried every kind of food, even tried making her food at home. Finally we found Primal Nuggets. PN come in Beef, Chicken, Lamb, Venison, Pork, Turkey/Sardine & Duck. Each freeze dried nugget contains a complete balanced diet. We started with Lamb due to the itching and Tootie loved them. The itching/scratching slowed down to nothing. Now we feed her all the different flavors with the exception of the chicken. You know Princesses get bored with the same meal everyday. LOL! I invested about $150 and have food for 3-4 months. Butters is still on Royal Canin yorkie puppy. He'll eat PN when his time comes. Best of luck with your little princess. 🍽 |
Solid Gold wee bites 1 Attachment(s) I would recommend solid gold wee bites..the kibble are teenie tiny bites Holistic and main ingredients are Byson and brown rice. When babies are introduced to kibble and refuse to eat, it isn't because they don't like it...their tiny teeth are very sensitive and they will be teething. I would recommend solid gold wee bites... And save your self from jumping From different brands which is very costly thinking your baby doesn't like it! |
Great results with Wellness Core puppy then small breed a 18mo. (grain free) The bowl is always empty, he digests it well, It's generally found in the top-tier isle at the pet store, about 20 bucks for 4lbs but it has been worth it. We have had ZERO health issues, firm stools, great teeth, good consistent weight and a healthy coat. |
I joined YT yesterday, specifically to learn about grain free dog food for my Yorkie/Silkie I rescued this past weekend. I had had a Rat Terrier/Jack Russell mix who had allergies and was on the Royal Canin Rx Venison for the month before we had to put him down. Sylvie seems to itch less on it than the Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier dry dog food, even if I mix it. The only downside to the Rx is the kibble is a little larger. So I guess I'll keep her on the Rx... |
I got my girl on Wellness for Toy Breed. I had started her on Core puppy when she was a baby then or small breed. She liked puppy better than small breed formula, but since they came out with toy breed version she's enjoyed that more. The kibbles are tiny, which my girl loves. Every time I get something that has bigger chunks, she eats them sometimes but I can tell she doesn't like to have to chew more into it. I've tried switching things up and I came to the conclusion that she prefers the tiny/smaller kibble. Then it's flavor, lol. She's turned her nose up at things that I know she likes, if the texture is off. I've occasionally switched up on different wet foods, but she's pretty picky about those too :P |
Our Bella likes Wellness Core Grain Free Small Breed as well. It's about $35 for 12 pounds, which lasts a couple of months. It has small kibble size which makes it easier for her to chew since she had a few adult teeth pulled. She likes it so much that we had to stop free feeding her and instead switched to three smaller feedings per day since she's a little piglet and has started putting on excess weight. |
