Washing doggie toys Is it possible to wash dog toys without killing the squeaker? I noticed tonight that some of the cloth ones are starting to be a bit smelly but afraid to put them in the washer. May have to resort to that though. |
I would be worried about the soap. I use Tide for my clothes and I don't know how safe that would be. There is always some residue left over. Maybe just a good soaking and scrubbing in the sink? I hand wash the little Kongs that I use to give them peanut butter every week. |
I throw all mine in the washer & after they are done I pull them out & squeeze all the water out of the squeakers then run them through a second wash with only water, no soap. After that I squeeze all the water out again & throw them in the dryer. A few have quit squeaking but most still work. You can buy packages of squeakers at Petco IF you need to replace any. |
Great! Thanks! |
My Brody is a toy-a-holic, so I pack the washer full with several different loads to wash them all. I wash with Borax, Washing Soda, and Fels Naptha Soap, and vinegar in the auto-release fabric softener bin. My washer is a front loader that spins at 12,000 rpm, so I do not need to put them into a dryer. I have never had a problem of any kind getting the toys washed this way...except for Brody 'barking, errrrr-ing, and grumbling' at me for the whole hour because I 'stole' his toys. The toys look great, smell great, and still squeak, and some of them he has had since 2012. |
I wash all my dog toys in the washer with their towels. I use Tide as detergent and use white vinegar as 'softener'. The vinegar acts as a neutralizer to rid of detergent and also to soften your fabrics, which is very safe. |
I wash all of our soft toys. Most of the squeakers survive. I use a tiny amount of Tide and rinse twice. Tumble dry. Many of our toys are 7 - 8 years old. |
