New to the community Hey everyone! My name is Christopher. Who would have known that an entire super forum dedicated to the Yorkshire Terrier of over 300,000 Yorkie owners existed? As a Yorkie owner myself, It would have been great to know about this site a couple years back! With the Internet in nearly every area of our lives in todays day and age, the facilitation and access to information is mind blowing. it almost makes it to where there is no longer an excuse to be ignorant. My little guy is somewhere between the age of 6 or 7, however, he is no ordinary Yorkie, probably the biggest a Yorkie can get, he weighs in at 13.9 Pounds. Of course I will post a picture. I was also curious as to when the typical signs of aging begin to develop with your average Yorkie. I dread the thought of my little baby becoming a senior, however, I find that there is alot of conflicting knowledge online in terms of life expectancy and at what age they are considered to be seniors etc. |

Welcome to YT...... My now passed girl as an adult weighed in at 17 pounds, no fat,just a BIG yorkie with a sleek beautiful body. Yorkies come in all weights and sizes, not just the wee tiny ones lol. My adopted boy is 12 pounds. My girl lived to be 17 years old. I would say when a dog reaches the age of 10 years old they are considered seniors. My girl started losing her sight and hearing around 15 yo, dementia started shortly after her 16th birthday. We have members who have larger then standard (5 to 7 Lbs) yorkies. |
Are you guys serious? wow, I honestly did not know this. I was under the impression that a yorkie over 7 Pounds was like an odd occurrence or something. Guys. how do you post pictures on here? I have been trying and it says that the picture of 2 megabytes exceeds the 150 k limit or something of that nature, can you guys walk me through it? |

Until I joined YT I thought my 17 pound girl should be listed in Ripley's Believe It Or Not lol. You may have to resize pictures to 200KB or less. |
Here is a free on line program...there are many JPEG Optimizer - Compress and Resize Your Digital Photos Hit the CHOOSE FILE button in the middle pick your pic from your PC Hit OPTIMIZE PHOTO In a couple of seconds you will see your pic...right click and save it to your PC...it will be under 200k and ready to upload Looking forward to seeing your furbaby! |

I think the terrier yorkshire is among the finest breeds of the Canine kingdom. my little guys is so hyper and active, bursting with energy all the time. If I ever become a father, my kid is definitely having a yorkie. They are so playful Another huge advantage of the yorkie, and small breed canine's in general is that there lifespan is significantly longer than there larger counterparts. I could not imagine having a Great Dane, dogs of this size very seldomely live to be over nine years of age. Thats horrible don't you think? If I were burying my great dane after he passed away eight years and 9 months, I could see myself thinking "Wow, sure went by quick didn't it boy? I remember just 8 years ago when your moma gave birth to you, and 7 years ago when you were such a cute puppy" The smaller breeds can in some instances live to see 20 (Although this is pretty rare), but the lifespan of the Yorkshire Terrier 13-16 years is alot more reasonable. And with medicine advancing the paste it is, researchers in the veterinarian and animal industries are making significant discoveries in extending the life of the Canine. |
in fact: Oldest Yorkie Ever, The Yorkshire Terrier named Jack was no ordinary pooch. He was old - so old, in fact, he was thought to be the oldest of all the dogs in Great Britain. When Jack turned 26 in December 2015, or maybe he turned 24 or 25, the dog had lived a decade beyond the average Yorkshire terrier. |
That is amazing isn't it, but unfortunately not common. |
Welcome to YT :wavey: He's a cutie & by the way no yorkie is ordinary, lol. Does he have a name ? maybe I missed it ? My Aunt & Uncle had a yorkie (Angel) who passed away last year at the age of 19 yrs. All of mine have lived 15 & 16 yrs except my Sassy who had a Chiari & she passed at 13. Good diet, exercise, vet care & LOVE are the key. |
