New to Yorkie's Our new Yorkie (Skittles) is going to the potty when I take her to the designated spot very well. She has only gone once to that spot by herself. She is 4 month old, but we didn't get her until she was 2 months. We are trying to train her to the grass pad indoors. Am I on the right track to just continue to try and take her where I want her to go when I think she may need to go? I treat her every time she goes there. The books say do not fuss at her if she goes in the wrong place, but she doesn't seem to be understanding it is better to go to the correct spot. If I don't anticipate when she needs to go, she will go anywhere including on the furniture. |
Welcome! Congrats on your baby! It sounds like you're on the correct path! Keep taking her where you want her to go, reward her when she does. If you catch her going somewhere else try to interrupt and take her to one of the "correct" potty locations; reward her if she goes. If she's having accidents maybe try taking her potty more frequently and don't leave her alone where she might have an accident. Crate training is very helpful to teach them to "hold it". It just takes some time & patience. You'll get there!!! |
