To be prepared Cash goes to vet Tuesday for third set of shots.... Is there anything that I should ask or watch for to know the Vet has knowledge of the breed?? Does that make sense?? I wanna make sure Cash's vet is a good one... Thanks for any help.... :confused: |
You could ask the vet some questions about Yorkies that you already know the answers to. Then see if their answers are correct or if they just try to side step them. Maybe bring up the topic of common hereditary diseases in Yorkies and if you should be watching for any particular warning signs in your dog. Just make sure you do a little research on whatever topic you choose so you'll know if the vet knows what they're talking about. |

Try to find a vet that has recently graduated from school. Like within the past 4 or 5 years. They have a lot more knowledge on new technology and diseases that you should be aware of. And they're typically a lot more knowledgable about breeds. I take Bouncer to a younger doctor who graduated a few years ago and he is WONDERFUL! |
Ok great thanks.. I had set up an appt with one vet, and then found out they were 20 minutes away, so I cancelled with them, was going to go w/one down the street from me, but HORRIBLE customer service if you can call it that... they were rude.. so no... and then I called this one place, talked to her about Cash dragging the butt... she was VERY nice, talked to me about everything unlike the other woman that I was gonna go too.. SO, I'll look up the info on the Vet for that clinic.. Thanks |
Young vet info is very good. I'm taking mine to one who just grad. too. I was surprised to hear him say he and his (older) partener disagreed on how often to give the shots, and I could choose and they'd both use MY preferred timing! He thought 3-4 weeks best and rabies 1 every 3 years (newest research!) and that made my day because I really thing we just fill these babies up with shots. And on follow up, they other vet read his notes and didn't change a thing! Got the best of the new info, and the older's experience with Yorkies (he used to breed them). |
