So I found a breeder and getting a little small boy. Was wonder any recommendations on puppy food 🥘

It would be best to keep him on the food the breeder has him on for a couple months so he can get used to his new home.

That is a good idea. Let him get acclimated before changing his diet. The change in environment will be tough enough for him without adding a dietary change also. Asking what people feed their dogs will get you 100 different answers. If you search through the history you will find a boatload of info on food. But it will eventually come down to a personal decision for you. Do some reading and make an informed decision. The only suggestion I have is to change it slowly. 75% old food - 25% new food for the 1st week. 50% old food - 50% new food for the 2nd week. 25% old food - 75% new food for the 3rd week. And then switch to 100% new. This will let your furbabies digestive system get used to the new food.

Thanks, I got a bag of what the breeder suggested today and she told me I can start something else. It is hard to get food.

I plan on keeping him on the same one for a while but I was looking into orjien and life adbundace to see out of those would be better.. Orijen has less carbs then the one he is on now

Yep, keep him on the same food when he first comes home with you. Just note that with all the changes, he might refuse to eat the first day or two, even if it's the same food. That's what happened to my Scottie (Casie on the other hand had no issues; she's always hungry).

If you're lucky and you don't have a picky eater, then you'll be good to go. If you get a picky eater, try not to do what I did and switch kibble brands too many times. It only gets them sick! :(

I have fed Scottie Orijen and he loved it. The only thing is the kibble size is quite large. Scottie knew to chew the pieces. When Casie came along, she'd swallow them whole without chewing at all and would always regurgitate her meals shortly after.

So now, I have them both on Fromm grain-free. They're tiny pieces. I got my babies at 5 months, so it was okay to feed them at a set schedule (if yours is younger, you may want to consider free-feeding at first). At 1 and 1.5 years, I feed them twice a day, and I always soak the kibble for ~5 minutes in warm water - it's much better on their stomach for digestion and their poop comes out a lot nicer!

If you can afford it, the freeze-dried raw patty meals are the best (imo). But it's too costly for me, so I just use them as treats.

Thanks so much @canana that is the type of info I was looking for :) now that I know the kibble is big for orijen down the road I will check into Fromm.

And FYI, most pet stores that sell Fromm have free sample packages. ;)
So after a couple weeks, while your puppy is still on the breeder's kibble, you could consider using the sample packs as treats every now and then to transition him.

I always use dog food as treats lol...
Many treats are usually too processed, which I don't like. Or, they're good quality treats, but very rich in liver. Liver is very very yummy for pups, but can give them upset stomach if they eat too much.

Oh, I've recently tried out this brand of food called Lotus: Lotus Pet Foods. Surprisingly it seems quite good - all natural. They're marketed as the first 'oven baked' dog food, rather than the typical extruded dog kibble. I used these as treats and my two babies LOVE it! Not sure if they cost the same as freeze-dried meals though.

The plan I have is to keep the same food till he gets 6-7 months
