Yorkie puppy not eating dry food Hello everyone! I have an 11 week yorkie puppy and she is currently on Royal Canine puppy dry food. She was doing fine with it until I mixed a bit of wet food in with it- now she won't eat her dry food. This has been going on for about 4 days. She will only eat her wet food and leave the dry food in the bowl. What should I do? Should I try changing dry food brands? She loves the wet food but it's a little expensive so I would like to continue to mix the dry food with the wet food. Thank you in advance for any replies I get!!! |
Have you tried soaking the dry food in hot water and letting it soak and then draining it? It will make it mushy like wet food. |

Thank you so much! Thank you all so much for all your responses. My puppy is finally eating again. I stopped adding water to her food and she is eating it completely dry now. Every once in a while I will add a little bit of her wet dog food and she completely loves it! Thanks again for all of your help!!!! |

My two cents... You can also consider continuing adding water to her kibble. It's a lot easier on their digestive system when the food is moist, which may then also reduce straining when they poop. There's also lesser chance of regurgitation of the kibble because the stomach is able to digest it better. Just know that puppies can be picky - my little Scottie threw me around in circles at first by not wanting to eat. I tried switching kibbles etc, until finally, I read that it's better to stick to one high quality kibble brand that produces healthy looking poop and not to change it. Without soaking the kibble, Scottie's poop would sometimes look shriveled. You want plump, playdough-looking consistencies that can easily be picked up without leaving any residue. ;) Forget the base, we're all about the poop! :D |
lol my girl was the opposite when she was a baby. I started her on the wet food to make it easier for her to digest but after a couple of weeks having her, she kept trying to go into the big girls' bowl of dry food and snubbed her wet food. :p I figured she must be ready for it since she was determined (either that or cause she knew she wasn't suppose to have it). I use wellness and I find that their wet/dry food are similar in ingredients when it's a similar type/flavor. Just that one's wet and the other isn't, so most of the time I let my girl pick out her preference, but dry foods in general is just better for the teeth. I love that Wellness has toy breed sized kibble, my girl likes the smaller crunchy bites. |
