Big/large yorkies hair question Just out of curiosity, do big yorkies (off the standard, teapots, more than 7lbs) take longer to grow hair? Do they ever grow a long coat? Just asking because all the pics I've seen of bigger yorkies most of the time they're in puppy cuts, or just like shorter hair, never too long. |
My boys are 9 pounds and in full coat. They are long-legged, 11.5 inches from the floor to their topline. Their hair probably grows at the same pace as a smaller Yorkie, but takes longer to reach the floor because they have more distance to cover. In other words, the hair grows at maybe 1 inch a month, but they have more inches between the topline and the floor. |

My 17 pounder has thick hair that grows really fast but she just doesn't have the personality for long hair. |
My now passed 17 pound girl had thin hair, long legs, her hair never grew to floor length. The longest it grew was to her front legs knees. No puppy cut for her due to the long legs, it would not have been very attractive and she was a beautiful girl. Her hair never matted so I just left it the length it would grow. Just my experience with BIG yorkie and hair length. |
Thank you I find that helpful as well. Lily our second girl is between 9 and 10 lbs and I wondered the same , she is a year old now and she is tall. Her coat is growing but slow and not the same a Bella's coat both have papers. (CKC) There is no problem with matting or tangling . |
Thank y'all! This has been very helpful to me :) |
My yorkie, Mr BeanO weighs in at 15.7 lbs. He grows hair very fast all over his body. It does get matted quickly if I do not daily brush and comb it out. I take him to the groomers monthly for a regular trim haircut. I let it grow longer over the winter but go for a puppy cut during the summer. He looks good in both long hair and short hair although I have never let it grow past a month. My gut feeling is that hair growth is not consistent among various yorkie body weights. |
